Pinergy Munster Boys Schools Senior Cup Preview

The competition heats up in the Pinergy Munster Boys Schools Senior Cup as we reach the Quarter Final Eliminator and Semi Final Qualifier stages.

In the Quarter Final Eliminators, Rockwell College face Castletroy College and Christian Brothers College take on Glenstal Abbey.

In the Semi Final Qualifiers we see Crescent College Comprehensive meet St. Munchins while Presentation Brothers College go toe-to-toe with Bandon Grammar School.

Preview each of the pairings below.

Rockwell College v Castletroy College

Fethard Town Park is the first location for the Pinergy Munster Boys Schools Senior Cup Quarter Final Eliminators as Tipperary’s Rockwell College lock horns with Castletroy College.

Rockwell College finished the group stages in second place in Group A with two wins, two losses and a total of 11 points.

They kicked off this year’s competition with their clash against Castletroy College. After an end-to-end game the home side ran out as winners with a score of 30-22.

Next up for the Tipp natives was table toppers Presentation Brothers College. The Cork side proved to be too strong for Rockwell as they recorded a 17-50 win.

A trip to Limerick was up next as they travelled to face Glenstal Abbey. It was yet another close encounter with both sides scoring four tries a piece. But it was Rockwell that came out on a top with a score line of 24-28.

Their final game of the group saw the side make the trip to Corbally to face St. Munchins College. The home side ran out winners on the day with a final score of 19-14.

Castletroy College finished the group stages in fifth place in Group A.

They travelled to Rockwell for their first game of the competition where the Tipperary side ran out 30-22 winners.

Next up for the Limerick side was Cork’s Presentation Brothers College where the visitors came away with the win with a score of 5-26.

They welcomed Glenstal Abbey to the school grounds where they went down 3-13 before being beaten by St. Munchins in Corbally in their final game of the group.

The Limerick natives earned their spot in the Quarter Final Eliminator by defeating fellow Limerick outfit Ardscoil Rís 21-33 in their Round One knockout fixture in Fitzgerald Park.

Tomorrow’s game will kick off at 2pm in Fethard Town Park.

Crescent College Comprehensive v St Munchins

It will be an all Limerick affair in Thomond Park tomorrow afternoon as Crescent College Comprehensive face St Munchins in the first of our Semi Final Qualifier.

Crescent College topped Group B with 18 points to their name from three wins and a draw.

The Limerick side got their competition underway with a 24-all draw against West Cork outfit Bandon Grammar.

They welcomed Munster’s Club Select Player programme to UL a week later where they earned their first win of the campaign with a score of 24-12.

Next up was fellow Limerick side Ardscoil Rís who they overcame 21-43.

Their final group stage game saw them face current title holder Christian Brothers College. After a tough battle the Limerick side came out on top with a score of 24-14.

St Munchins saw out Group A in second place with 11 points from their two win and two losses.

Their season kicked off with a 64-0 defeat to 2024 winners PBC.

A narrow 32-26 loss to Glenstal Abbey was next on the cards for the Limerick side.

But this didn’t deter them as they rallied in their third game of the group to beat Rockwell College 19-14.

Their final game saw them jump from fourth position to second as they overcame fellow Limerick side Casteltroy College 28-22.

The Semi Final Qualifier will kick off at 2pm in Thomond Park.

Presentation Brothers College v Bandon Grammar School

The second Semi Final Qualifiers sees the 2024 champions Presentation Brothers College take on Bandon Grammar in Cork’s Virgin Media Park.

PBC held on to the top spot in Group A with 20 points from four dominant wins.

Their first victory of the competition came on the 8th of October as they defeated St. Munchins 64-0 in Wilton.

Next up was a trip to Tipperary to face Rockwell College where the Cork side ran out 17-50 winners.

Their penultimate game of the group was against Castletroy College as they hit the road once more. The away side once again came out on top with a score of 5-26.

The side finished out their group stage campaign by welcoming Limerick’s Glenstal Abbey to Cork where the game ended with a score line of 77-12 in favour of the home side.

Bandon Grammar saw out the group stages in second place in the Group B table, with just one point separating them from leaders Crescent College.

They met Crescent College in their opening game of the competition which ended all square at 24 points a piece.

They welcomed Ardscoil Rís to West Cork the following week where they ran out 24-17 winners.

Next up was a trip to the city to face fellow Cork side Christian Brothers College in Lansdowne. It was another surprising defeat for the current title holders as Bandon ran out 26-44 winners at the final whistle.

The final game of the pool saw them make the trip to Virgin Media Park to take on the Munster’s Club Select Player programme side. It was another great day out for the West Cork outfit as they defeated the home side 24-50.

This fixture will get underway at 2pm in Virgin Media Park.

Christian Brothers College v Glenstal Abbey

CBC will face Limerick’s Glenstal Abbey this Thursday in Virgin Media Park in the second Quarter Final Eliminator.

Current title holders Christian Brothers College saw out the group stages in the third spot in the Group B with 11 points from their two wins and two losses.

The Cork City side were handed their first loss of their campaign in the opening round against Bandon Grammar as the West Cork side ran out 26-44 winners.

But they bounced back quickly as they went on to defeat the Munster CSP team in Virgin Media Park with a score of 14-40.

Next up was a trip to Limerick to face Crescent College where they once again suffered a defeat as the game finished 24-14.

They faced Ardscoil Rís in their final group game of the competition where they earned their second win of the campaign. After an end-to-end game the Cork side took the win with a full time score of 24-12.

Glenstal Abbey finished the group stages in fourth place with 11 points from their two wins and two losses.

The Limerick side kicked off their campaign with a 32-26 win over St. Munchins College.

A tough battle with Tipperary side Rockwell College was next where four points separated the sides at full time as it finished 24-28.

Fellow Limerick side Castletroy College was next up for Glenstal Abbey as they recorded their second win of their campaign with a score of 3-13.

They faced Cork’s PBC in the final game of the campaign where the Cork side ran out winners with a score of 77-12.

This set the Limerick side up to face newly qualifier Kinsale Community School in Round One of the knock our stages. The Limerick side came out on top in the sunshine in Dooradoyle as after an end-to-end battle the game ended 34-10 in their favour.

The game will kick off at 2:30pm in Virgin Media Park.
