Munster U18 Girls Interpros Preparations
8th July 2025 By The Editor

It has been a busy summer across the province with the Munster age-grade representative squads preparing for their respective Interprovincial campaigns.
The Interpro series for Munster’s U19 Boys, U18 Boys Schools, U18 Boys Clubs and U18 Girls squads all kick off in August.
Last week saw the Girls U17 and U18 squads assemble in West Cork for two days of activities.
The first day saw the sides make the trip to Whiddy Island, an island off the coast of Bantry Bay, where they completed an around the island challenge as well as taking part in a Brazilian jiu-jitsu exhibition class.
Once the day on the island was complete the teams then made their way to Durrus to the West Cork Jesters facility where they were to camp for the night.
The following day the sides headed to Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí where they had a full day of rugby planned from gym work to pitch work and position specific training.
Speaking about the trip and the importance of opportunities like this for the sides to bond U18 Head Coach Damien Hicks said:
“We went out to Whiddy Island to do a range of team building activities that Bantry Bay Adventures set up for us and then the Brick Oven came and fed all the girls. Then we got the ferry back and stayed in the West Cork Jesters facility here in Durrus.”
“The following day then we headed to Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí and did a full day of rugby along with a 40 minute gym slot. It was a full on day but the girls definitely got a lot out of it.”
“The main reason we focused on these two days was because we wanted them to build that relationship with each other that they are like a family now and that they’ll fight for each other on the pitch and that they’ll hold each other accountable as well.”
“They have set standards these past two days and those standards can’t drop below that level and, most importantly, they have all bought into what we want to achieve as a group. So hopefully that’ll help us get to where we want to be these coming weeks.”
