Munster Schools Update

Schools PRO Maurcie Hartery reflects on last weeks competitive action across the province.

The Senior and Junior Cup Qualifiers were the main matches down for decision this week in the schools scene. St. Clements and High School CBS met in Clanwilliam for a double header to decide who would enter the main draws for the Schools Cups. It is St. Clements who will now face PBC in the main draw of both competitions after doing the double over their Tipperary counterparts. St. Clements booked their place in the Junior Cup with a narrow 14 – 12 win, while the Senior counterparts eventually had more room to spare with a 27 – 10 win. Both ties were in the melting pot right to the end, but 2 converted tries to St. Clements in injury time in the Senior match put on unfair reflection of the game on the scoreboard.

The McCarthy Cup (U15) final was also down for decision this week as PBC and CBC clashed in Musgrave Park. It was PBC won emerged victors after a 10 – 3 win. This ensured that PBC not only retained the trophy but also did it by winning 11 out of 11. For a match report, please click here.

The B section of the McCarthy Cup also features CBC and PBC who meet today at Wilton, kick-off 2pm.

In Senior friendlies around the province, Ard Scoil Ris beat Glenstal 23 – 13 in Coonagh. After losing to Castletroy in the final league game of the City Cup, Ard Scoil have gone on to beat both finalists from that competition.

At junior level, Castletroy met Crescent Comp in a Limerick derby for two games in Castletroy. The two schools shared one win apiece with Castletroy winning the “A” game 15 – 5, while Crescent proved too strong in the “B” game winning 44 – 0. Glenstal also took on Ard Scoil Ris in Coonagh. It was Glenstal ho prevailed on a scoreline of 21 – 19.

At U14 level, it was a very busy week for St. Munchins College. They played both Glenstal and Garbally College in A and B matches during the week. The “A” team won both matches winning 58 – 5 against Glenstal and 29 – 15 versus Garbally. At “B” level, it was Glenstal who beat St. Munchins 26 – 5, while Garbally won 31 – 19.
