Munster Schools Senior & Junior Cup Draw

The Munster Schools Senior and Junior Cup draws took place last night at Thomond Park Stadium.

This year saw a new look format with the one draw corresponding to both Senior and Junior Cup fixtures.

The first round of this season’s competition kicks off on the week of the 19th January 2016 which sees reigning Munster Schools Senior Cup champions Rockwell College at home to Bandon Grammar School.

In an all Limerick first round Ard Scoil Rís, who have been Senior Cup finalists on the last two occasions, host St. Munchin’s College.

Glenstal Abbey School entertain Castletroy College while St. Clements and High School Clonmel will battle it out next Wednesday, 2nd December at Clanwilliam FC with the winners going on to host Cork side PBC in the qualifying round.

Munster Schools Junior Cup holders CBC will travel to Limerick to defend their title against Crescent College Comprehensive with their senior side also set to face the Dooradoyle school.

Speaking at the launch Munster Rugby President Bertie Smith said “I am really looking forward to both the Munster Senior and Junior Schools’ competition starting in January. Last year I saw most of the matches in both competitions and I was highly impressed with the way all teams were positive in the way they played the games. There was a very high level of skill on display both individually and on a team basis. A number of those players from last year have gone on to play at age grade representative level with Munster, at AIL level with their clubs and we hope to see some of them appearing for Ireland Under 20 in both the 6 Nations Championship and the World Rugby U20 Championship next year.”

The Munster Schools Senior Cup final has been fixed for Tuesday, 8th March while the Schools Junior Cup final has been scheduled to take place on Sunday, 13th March.
