Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup State Of Play

The Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup competition is well underway with games remaining in both the group and qualifier stages.

This year sees St. Munchins, Bandon Grammar School, Presentation Brothers College, Crescent College Comprehensive and Glenstal Abbey occupy Group A.

While Group B sees Christian Brothers College, Rockwell College, Ardscoil Rís, Munster’s Club Select Programme and Castletroy College all take part.

St. Munchins

St. Munchins currently hold the top spot in Group A with four wins in four games with three additional bonus points.

They kicked off their campaign against West Cork outfit Bandon Grammar with a solid 12-31 win.

Next up was a meeting with Glenstal Abbey where they ran out winners with a score of 5-31.

The Limerick side earned their third win in a row as they welcomed Cork City side Presentation Brothers College to Corbally. The home side were once again favourites as they came away with the win 22-7.

They defeated fellow Limerick side Crescent College Comprehensive with a score of 34-7 to go undefeated in this year’s group stage.

Bandon Grammar School

Current titleholders, Bandon Grammar, occupy the second spot in Group A this season. The West Cork side have earned themselves 15 points with three wins and a loss.

Their first game of the competition saw them welcome current table toppers St. Munchins to Bandon. The Limerick side ran out winners on the day with a score of 12-31.

They faced Glenstal Abbey next where they ran out 19-31 winners on the day.

A trip to Crescent College was next on the cards for the West Cork natives where they secured their second win of their campaign with the game finishing 21-30.

Their final group stage game saw them entertain fellow Cork side Presentation Brothers College where they once again ran out winners with a score of 33-5 and securing themselves their third bonus point win of the competition.

Presentation Brothers College

PBC sit in third in this season’s Group A table with nine points to their name from their two wins and two losses.

The Cork City side got their competition underway against Crescent College Comprehensive where just a try separated the sides at the final whistle. It was PBC that came out on top with a score of 17-10.

Next up was a trip to Corbally where they were defeated 22-7 by a tough St. Munchins side.

But the Leesiders bounced back as they defeated Glenstal Abbey 40-18.

Their final game of the group stage saw them face fellow Cork side Bandon Grammar in West Cork with the home side coming out on top with a final score of 33-5.

Crescent College Comprehensive

Crescent College Comp are in fourth place in the Group A table with just one win to their name.

The Limerick side kick started their competition with a solid 36-0 win over Glenstal Abbey.

They faced Cork’s Presentation Brothers College in their second game of the competition where they lost by the narrowest of margins with a final score of 17-10.

Next up was Bandon Grammar where the Limerick side went down 21-30.

Their final group stage game saw them face table toppers St. Munchins which finished 34-7 in Munchins favour.

Glenstal Abbey

Glenstal Abbey take the final spot in Group A with four losses.

Their season kicked off with a 36-0 loss to Crescent College Comprehensive.

Next up was St. Munchins who came out on top with a score of 5-31.

They welcomed Bandon Grammar to Glenstal in their penultimate game of the group stage where the West Cork side ran out 19-32 winners.

While their final group stage game of the competition saw them make the trip to Cork to face Presentation Brothers College where they went down 40-18

Christian Brothers College

Christian Brothers College topped the Group B table with a total of 19 points from their four wins, three of which were with a bonus point.

The Cork City side got their season underway against Castletroy College where they came away with a 40-19 win.

Next up was a trip to Virgin Media Park to face the Munster Club Select Player side. After a tight contest CBC came out on top as the game finished 17-38.

Last year’s runners up faced Ardscoil Rís in their third game of the competition where they ran out as winners again by the narrowest of margins with a final score of 17-12.

Their final group stage game saw them make the trip to Tipperary to face Rockwell College. Just one point separated the sides at the final whistle as it ended 19-20 in favour of the Cork visitors.

Rockwell College

Tipperary’s Rockwell College sit in second position on nine points with one game left to play.

A trip to Coonagh was up first as they faced Limerick’s Ardscoil Rís. After an end-to-end contest the Tipperary natives ran out as winners with a score of 12-14.

They travelled to Castletroy College for the second game of the competition where they once again came out on top with a score of 7-12.

The Tipp side recorded their first loss of the competition against last year’s runners up Christian Brothers College which finished 19-20.

They will now face the Munster Club Select Player programme side in Lansdowne for their final game of the group stage this evening.

Ardscoil Rís

Sitting in third in this year’s Group B table is Ardscoil Rís. The side currently sits level with Rockwell College on nine points after four games with three additional bonus points.

They got their 2025/26 campaign underway with a 29-34 win over the Munster CSP side.

Rockwell College made the trip to face the Limerick side in Coonagh next. The Tipp natives proved to be a tough force as they came away with the narrowest of victories with the game finishing 12-14 in favour of Rockwell.

They welcomed fellow Limerick side Castletroy College to the UL4G for an epic clash that ended all square with five points a piece.

Next up was a trip to Cork to face last season’s runners up, Christian Brothers College. The Cork side proved to be too strong for the Limerick men as they defeated them 17-12.

Munster Club Select Player

The CSP (Club Select Player) programme is a player development initiative in Munster which sees age-grade club players play in high intensity games in the pre-Christmas pool stages of the Munster Schools Cups.

This season sees the side sit in fourth on seven points with one game left to play.

The CSP side kicked off their competitive season against Ardscoil Rís where they were defeated 29-34.

Next up was their clash with Cork’s own Christian Brothers College where they went down 17-38.

Their penultimate game of the season saw them earn their first victory in the competition as they defeated Castletroy College 19-33.

They will face Rockwell College in CBC’s Lansdowne later today in their final game of the 2025 season.

Castletroy College

The Limerick side takes up the last spot in Group B with three points from one draw and three losses.

They faced Christian Brothers College in their first game of the competition where they were defeated 40-19.

Next up was a clash with the Munster CSP team. Here they also lost 19-22.

A trip to the UL4G was next as they met fellow Limerick side Ardscoil Rís. After an end-to-end game it finished all square at five points a piece.

Their group game saw them face Rockwell College with the Tipperary native running out as winners with a full time score of 7-12.

Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup Qualifier

The qualifier for this year’s Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup Qualifier kicked off in October as Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig faced Coliste Pobail Bheanntrai in Ballincollig. Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai came out as winners on the day with a final score of 12-36.

Midleton CBS, Villiers and Kinsale Community School all received byes through the first round games into the semi finals.

Due to Villiers conceding their semi final spot Kinsale Community School were awarded the first spot in the Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup Qualifier final.

In the other semi final Midleton CBS overcame Coliste Pobail Bheanntrai with a score of 8-13.

Midleton CBS will now face Kinsale Community College in next week’s Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup Qualifier final.
