Munster Daughters Of Charity Side Take On Leinster

A selection of players from the Daughters of Charity in Munster recently took part in a challenge match at Garryowen Rugby Club.

The squad of 20 players took on the Leinster Daughters of Charity side who travelled from Dublin to compete in this one day tag rugby event.

Coached by Munster Community Rugby Officers Euan Gee and Andy Brace, the Munster side came together six months ago and train once a week at the University of Limerick.

Since their formation, the Munster Daughters of Charity have received great support from the Munster professional squad including Paul O’Connell and Keith Earls who were very impressed with their standard of rugby at a recent training session.

Finishing up at 7 a-piece, Donal Sherlock, Training Manager from the Enterprise and Employment Services confirmed there will be a return match in January.

Commenting on the support from the Munster players Sherlock said “The Senior Munster team have linked in with us and are going to mentor the lads.” He went on to thank Mike Sherry and Felix Jones who showed their commitment to the side last Monday by attending the Leinster fixture giving the players a few hints and tips along the way.

The Daughters of Charity mission statement is to enable each person with an intellectual disability within the service to take his or her place in society, and in turn to contribute in a meaningful way.
