Munster Boys Clubs Cups State Of Play

The Munster Boys Age-Grade Cup competitions got underway last weekend at both U18.5 and U16 levels.

In the U18.5 competition Bandon were crowned last season’s champions after a fantastic display against Old Christians.

While in the U16 age group Waterpark took the spoils in tantalising fashion over a strong Clonakilty outfit.

Check out this season’s state of play after the opening rounds below.

Munster Boys Clubs U18.5 Cup

In Conference One Shannon got proceeding underway as they overcame Bruff in Kilballyowen Park 19-38.

Thomond-Richmond faced Old Crescent in their opener, seeing out the game as 31-10 winners.

Kilrush made the trip to Jimmy Slattery Park where they were beaten by St. Senans 30-20.

In the final Conference One game of the weekend Young Munster made their way to Dooradoyle to face Garryowen in a tightly contested game that finished 15-17 in favour of the travelling side.

After the first round of games Shannon, St. Senans, Thomond-Richmond and Young Munster all sit on four points while Bruff, Kilrush, Old Crescent and Garryowen are all on zero.

Two rounds have been played in Conference Two of the competition.

Kanturk kicked things off as they welcomed Tralee to North Cork with the game ending 27-19.

Castleisland has teamed up with Listowel this season as they faced Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne in Castleisland. It was Chorca Dhuibhne who took the win with a score of 15-26.

Desmond Rugby met Killarney in their opening fixture. It was a tightly contested game with just one point separating the sides at the final whistle.

The Newcastlewest based side returned to winning ways the following week as they travelled to face Kanturk with the score at full time standing at 14-27.

Killarney faced fellow Kerry side Killorglin in their second round tie. The home side Killarney took the win with a score of 36-7.

Tralee also took own a fellow Kerry side last weekend as they met Castleisland-Listowel. It was another close game between the sides with Tralee coming away as winners with a score of 31-29.

After two rounds Killarney clinched the top spot with full compliment of points.

Kanturk, Tralee, Desmond Rugby and Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne all sit on four points, with Chorca Dhuibhne still having to play their second round game.

Castleisland-Listowel and Killorglin round out the table in sixth and seventh place respectively.

In Conference Three Clanwilliam faced UL Bohemian in their opening game of the competition. The Annacotty natives took the win with a score of 10-17.

In the second game in the group Nenagh Ormond overcame Ennis with a score of 22-30.

Newport made the trip to Thurles where they secured a comprehensive victory with a score of 3-34.

In the second round of games Nenagh Ormond continued their winning ways as they defeated Thurles 44-18.

UL Bohemian defeated Ennis by just 10 points with the score standing at 24-14 at the final whistle.

And in the final round two game of the group Newport overcame visitors Clanwilliam 24-14.

After two rounds of games UL Bohemian, Nenagh Ormond and Newport all share the top spot on eight points each. While Clanwilliam, Ennis and Thurles take the final three spots.

There has only been three games played in Conference Four.

Clonakilty overcame Ballincollig 30-0.

Bantry Bay made the trip to Snugmore to take on Kinsale where they were defeated 50-27 while Skibbereen faced the amalgamated Crosshaven-Cork Constitution going down 24-36.

After round one the table stood at Clonakilty, Kinsale and Crosshaven-Cork Con in the top three spots with four  points each.

While Ballincollig, Bantry Bay and Skibbereen all occupied the bottom rungs.

In round one of Conference Five Highfield defeated last season’s champions Bandon 24-5.

Sundays Well-Carrigaline had victory over Cashel with a score of 35-5.

While Old Christians overcame Charleville and District 34-15.

These leaves Sundays Well-Carrigaline, Highfield and Old Christians taking the lead with four points apiece, while Charleville and District, Bandon and Cashel take up the lower spots in the table.

Two rounds of action have played out in Conference Six.

Waterford City got proceedings underway as they beat Clonmel 23-22 in an end to end game.

Waterpark held fellow East Munster team Dungarvan scoreless in their opening game with score of 31-0.

Galty hosted Carrick-on-Suir in Kilfeacle for their first game of the championship as they went down 20-29.

In round two Waterford City made the trip to Carrick-on-Suir where they were defeated 33-3.

Waterpark continued their winning ways as they overcame Clonmel 14-26 and in the final game of round two Dungarvan held Galty scoreless with a score of 35-0.

After two rounds of action Waterpark and Carrick-on-Suir top the table with eight points each.

Fellow Waterford teams Dungarvan and Waterford City sit in third and fourth with four points a piece while Clonmel and Galty take the last two spots in fifth and sixth respectively.

Round one of Conference Seven also kicked off last weekend with three games taking place.

Fermoy beat Youghal 10-0 in Fermoy.

Douglas-Muskerry made the trip to Mallow where they were defeated 38-8.

And Cobh Pirates overcame fellow East Cork side Midleton with a score of 25-12.

In the final table of the Boys Clubs U18.5 Cup Fermoy, Mallow and Cobh Pirates all sit on four points.

While Youghal, Douglas-Muskerry and Midleton take up fourth, fifth and six place respectively.

Munster Boys Clubs U16 Cup

In Conference One of the Munster Boys Clubs U16 Cup, Kilrush RFC got proceedings underway as they hosted UL Bohemian in an exciting contest that finished 12-42 in favour of the Limerick natives.

Thomond-Richmond were held scoreless by a strong Garrowen-Newport side with a score of 0-29 and Shannon overcame Young Munster by the narrowest of margins as the score stood at 22-20.

With Bruff still yet to play a game the table after round one sees UL Bohemian, Shannon and Garryowen-Newport take the first three spots with four points a piece.

While Kilrush, Young Munster, Thomond-Richmond and Bruff sit in the final four spots.

Two rounds of action have played out in Conference Two.

Kanturk were first out as they travelled to Killorglin, defeating the Kerry outfit by four points with the score 8-12.

Tralee defeated Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne with a score of 36-17.

Listowel-Castleisland made the trip to Killarney where they were beaten 42-29.

In the second round of action Killarney drew 24 all with fellow Kerry side Killorglin.

Kanturk overcame Tralee 29-13 while Desmond played their first game of the competition where they beat Listowel-Castleisland 43-22.

After two rounds Kanturk top the table with eight points.

They are joined by Killarney who sit in second with six points while Tralee and Desmond take the third and forth spots respectively with four points a piece.

Killorglin sit in fifth with two points while Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne and Listowel-Castleisland take up the final two spots as they have yet to register a point.

Clanwilliam kicked off Conference Three as they were defeated by Cashel 34-38.

Thurles travelled to Kilfeacle and District where they secured themselves their first win with a score of 12-26.

Nenagh Ormond welcomed Ennis to New Ormond Park where the away side got the better of them as the game ended 14-25.

In round two Thurles defeated Bruff White 29-12.

Ennis overcame Clanwilliam 35-5 while Cashel continued winning ways as they beat Kilfeacle and District 47-34.

The table after two rounds sees Cashel, Thurles and Ennis take the top three spots on eight points each, while Clanwilliam, Kilfeacle and District, Nenagh Ormond and Bruff White occupy the final four spots.

Just the two games have currently been played out in Conference Four.

Bandon overcame Skibbereen 35-5 while Kinsale defeated Clonakilty 17-19.

With two teams still yet to play, Bandon and Kinsale take the top spots in the table.

They are followed by Skibbereen, Clonakilty, Bantry Bay and Crosshaven-Cork Constitution.

Much like Conference Four there was also just the two games played in Conference Five as Old Christians overcame Highfield 36-12 and Ballincollig Black beat Charleville and District 14-39.

Old Christians and Ballincollig take the top spots with four points a piece.

While Highfield, Charleville and District and Dolphin take up the third, fourth and fifth spot respectively.

Waterford City kicked off Conference Six as they defeated Mitchelstown 30-0 in round one.

Waterpark Black made the trip top Dungarvan where they overcame them 5-35.

Carrick-on-Suir beat Clonmel 38-17 to close out the first round of action in the conference.

In round two Mitchelstown were defeated by Dungarvan 0-30.

Clonmel were beaten by Waterford City with a score of 32-46 while Waterpark Black held Carrick-on-Suit scoreless with that game ending 30-0.

After two rounds of action Waterford City and Waterpark Black both sit on eight points while Dungarvan and Carrick-on-Suit have four points a piece.

Mitchelstown and Clonmel occupy the final two spots having yet to register any points.

Only two games were played out in the final conference, Conference Seven, of the Munster Boys Clubs U16 Cup competition.

Midleton got proceedings underway as they defeated fellow East Cork side Cobh Pirates 24-5.

Youghal overcame Fermoy 30-7 in the second game of round one.

Muskerry conceded their first round game to Mallow giving the north Cork side the full point cohort for the fixture.

After round one Midleton, Mallow and Youghal all top the table with four points each.

While Cobh Pirates, Muskerry and Fermoy take up the fourth, fifth and sixth spots respectively.
