Munster Association Of Referees Host Successful New Referees Course
29th October 2025 By The Editor
The Munster Association of Referees were delighted to host 10 aspiring referees in the University Of Limerick last weekend for their yearly New Referees Course.
The day kicked off in the classroom as the new referees learnt all about the admin side of refereeing and how to best prepare for any games that they may take under their jurisdiction.
They then welcomed national panel referee, Dermot Blake, in to speak to them about the process he goes through before, during and after a game.
From there they then headed out to the pitch to watch Blake in action as he refereed the round four meeting of local side UL Bohemian and Rainey Old Boys.
Once the match had ended a Q&A was hosted with Dermot Blake so the buddying referees could learn more about how he refereed the game and the different situations he encountered during the 80 minutes of action.
After the course we spoke with referee administrator, Jennifer Ryan, on how important it is to host courses like this and what she hopes the referees took away from it.
