A view of the Mount Mercy Coaching Course
Last week Mount Mercy College hosted a rugby training session for first and second year students ran by their newly qualified transition year coaches.
In collaboration with Munster Rugby, Mount Mercy held a youth rugby coaching course for their forth year students as part of their TY curriculum. The course took place once a week and taught the girls the valuable skills that are needed to be a coach.
On conclusion of the course the girls invited first and second year students out to join them for an afternoon of rugby fun through games and drills all run by the fourth year students.
Under the watchful eye of rugby development officers Damien Hicks and Vincent O’Leary, the girls taught the younger students two of the most important cornerstones of rugby, catch pass and ball carry and evasion.
We caught up with student Olwyn Hennigan after the session to find out how she got on and what her coaching future looks like
