Munster Rugby can confirm that Maeve Óg O’Leary will take over as captain of the Munster Women’s side for the 2025/26 season.

Chloe Pearse and Stephanie Nunan will serve as this year’s vice captains.

Born and raised in Ballina, County Tipperary, Maeve Óg began her playing career at the age of 15 for local club Ballina-Killaloe RFC.

From there she earned herself a spot on the Munster U18 side at both 7s and 15s level.

After school Maeve Óg made the move to Dublin to continue her studies in DCU. This led the former fly-half/centre to join Dublin side Blackrock College where she found herself shifting to back-row.

O’Leary went on to win an All-Ireland League title with the side in 2022.

She made her senior Munster debut in 2021 and was part of the team that won the Interprovincial Championship in 2022 and retained the championship in 2023.

O’Leary made her senior Ireland debut in 2021, featuring as a replacement against the United States. She also was part of the squad for the 2022 Six Nations.

In 2023 she made the squad once more and travelled to Dubai for the inaugural WXV tournament.

O’Leary returns to the Munster side this season after an extended break due to knee injuries.

Speaking about her return Maeve Óg said:

“It’s great to be back this season and an absolute privilege to be leading the girls alongside Chloe and Steph.

“We are all looking forward to the Interpros kicking off with plenty of opportunity in this year’s competition. We have been training hard these past number of weeks and have being growing and connecting as a team on and off the pitch.

“There are a number of new faces and great talent coming through in camp this season and I look forward to seeing our potential going forward as we continue to learn and grow.”
