The inaugural Munster Schools Girls Junior League kicked off yesterday as Ursuline Thurles met Patrician Presentation Fethard and Ardscoil Mhuire faced Coláiste Muire Ennis.

The continued growth of the girls game has allowed this league come to be as it acts as an opportunity for schools, especially those new to the game, to gain more game time and experience before the Cup competition gets underway in the new year.

The competition has been split regionally to eliminate long trips for the schools and will be played throughout October and November.

Group One hosts our Kerry contingent in Presentation Tralee, Intermediate School Killorglin and Coláiste na Sceilge.

West Cork occupy Group Two as Skibbereen Community School, Bandon Grammar School, Colaiste Pobail Bheanntraí and last year’s cup champions Sacred Heart Clonakilty all take part.

Group Three is made up of St. Marys Secondary School Mallow, St. Colmans Midleton and Colaiste Muire Cobh.

We find our Tipperary schools in Group Four with Patrician Presentation Fethard, Ursuline Thurles and Newport College in attendance.

And our final grouping is Group Five which contains our Limerick/Clare contingent in Ardscoil Mhuire, Coláiste Muire Ennis and Salesian College Pallaskenry.

Ursuline Thurles got the competition underway as they faced Patrician Presentation Fethard.

After an end-to-end game Patrician Presentation took the win over Ursuline Thurles with a score line of 25-30 in Fethard Town Park.

In the second game of the day Ardscoil Mhuire had a positive opening to their group as they overcame Coláiste Muire Ennis 42-12.

Today’s action saw St. Marys Secondary School Mallow defeat St Colemans Midleton while Skibbereen Community School overcame Bandon Grammar.
