Girls Tag Rugby Blitz at Young Munster RFC

In another progressive step for the women’s game at under-age level, the second annual Maura Hourigan Memorial Tournament was held at Young Munster RFC.

The event is staged to remember a former student of Laurel Hill FCJ and also a former player at Young Munster who tragically lost her life last year.

Schools attended from across the county and city to play tag with a number of schools playing in competition for the first time, a testament to many teachers giving their time to develop future rugby players for local clubs.

Some of the schools that attended were Presentation (Scoil Carmel), Bruff FCJ, St Marys (Newport), Colaiste Laurel Hill and Laurel Hill FCJ.

The final saw two closely matched teams in Laurel Hill FCJ and Bruff FCJ. The overall winners were Laurel Hill FCJ coached by Ciara Ronan and Andrea Enright.

The Hourigan family were in attendance to present the trophy to the winners after a tightly contested final game.

Ger Hannon and Mike Prendergast of Young Munster RFC facilitated the event which was coordinated by Laurel Hill FCJ in conjunction with Munster Rugby staff.
