Colaiste Ide Agus Iosef Girls Compete In Schools Festival

Colaiste ãde agus Iosef were just one of the many schools who were invited to the first ever Irish Rugby School Festival in the Aviva Stadium last Sunday.

The girls were treated like royalty being shown to their dressing rooms, escorted back to the pitch for their photo to be taken and got a practice game on the astro-turf against a strong Northern Ireland team from Oldcastle Post-Primary School.

As the girls soaked up the atmosphere they came back to draw the match with 2 tries each.

Within a few minutes of this game being over they were then shown into the Aviva Stadium via the tunnel where they got to enjoy the facilities before heading onto to the pitch for their next match, they played St. MacDaras from Dublin. This time each and every girl played exceptionally well with tries coming left and right, Larissa McCarthy started the trend with the first 3 tries followed by Stephanie Woulfe try and the next coming from the captain herself Sinead Leahy. Sadhbh O’Connor got her try down on the right side and Mai Fitzgerald was next to finish the first half with her try on the left hand side.

The second half saw more tries with one from Amanda Tony, Sinead Leahy, Anna Lyons and Noreen Nolan getting hers just on the full time buzzer making the final score 11 tries to nil.

A fantastic experience for the girls and the team who can be proud of themselves as they played on the Aviva pitch with great pride.

After they met Irish player Jenny Murphy as she walked around the pitch to take photos with the girls. The teams next treat was a short tour of the stadium followed by complimentary food while watching the Ireland v France match on multiple screens in the President’s Suite.

Well done to all involved, the team, the supporters, the helpers and their principal for organising Colaiste Íde agus Iosef girls team to be part of an historic event.
