Club Notes | Cobh Pirates Fostering Inclusivity With Facilities Expansion
23rd June 2025 By Cobh Pirates

Cobh Pirates RFC, a vibrant, community-driven rugby club with a proud tradition of inclusivity and development, is embarking on an ambitious and essential project to expand and modernise its changing facilities—a move vital to sustaining and growing the club’s legacy.
With membership rising across all levels—from mini rugby to adult men and women, including a thriving mixed-ability program—the current changing rooms have become outdated and insufficient. The existing setup cannot adequately support the club’s evolving needs, especially with mixed-gender participation, increased team sizes, and modern safety and welfare standards.
To address these challenges, the club proposes a purpose-built, energy-efficient dressing room complex designed to accommodate four fully equipped changing rooms, a referees’ area suitable for mixed-gender officials, a dedicated medical and physio room, and an extensible team room—all within a 520 sqm facility.
Set for completion by Q3 2026 at an estimated cost of €880,000, this development is about more than bricks and mortar; it represents a commitment to the future of community sport in Cobh. To bring this vision to life, Cobh Pirates RFC is calling on local businesses, supporters, and the broader community to engage in their forthcoming dynamic fundraising initiatives, such as the soon to be published online donation ability and direct donation opportunities.
Supporting this project means investing in a safe, inclusive, and sustainable space for current and future generations of Pirates to thrive.
Cobh Pirates RFC is also currently seeking a Club Coach for the upcoming 2025/26 season. This is an exciting opportunity to join a passionate, community-oriented club with a strong tradition of player development and inclusive rugby. We welcome expressions of interest from suitably qualified and enthusiastic coaches who are eager to contribute to the growth and success of our teams.
