On 11th of January, in very wet conditions, over 100 girls from seven local schools descended on Colaiste Pobail Beanntrai to take part in the club’s first girls only National School Blitz.
The weather didn’t dampen the spirits of the girls, teachers and our fantastic Transition Year students who were there to lend a hand on the day.
Speaking about the success of the event, Bantry Bay CCRO Geraldine Hicks said:
“It was an absolutely fantastic day with some great rugby on display, despite the conditions.
“Many of these girls have never played rugby before so the main goal of today was to introduce them to the game in a fun and friendly environment.
“After the blitz we then invited the girls to come and give rugby a try with the club and the response has been huge.
“Since then we have 20 new girls taking part and it has continued to grow week-on-week
“The sessions are open to all and will continue for the next number of weeks. All details can be found on Bantry Bay RFC social media or by contacting the club.”
Bantry Bay would like to extend their thanks to the teachers and TY students of Colaiste Pobail Beanntrai as well as Munster Development Officers Damien Hicks, Willie Shubart and Eugene McCarthy for all their help throughout the day.
