CCRO Training Day

CCRO Training Day

This week Munster Rugby held a training day at Virgin Media Park for this season’s Club & Community Rugby Officers (CCROs).

The CCROs will be working with clubs and schools across the province over the next eight months, introducing rugby into the school through PE classes and helping to link the schools with their local clubs.

The role of a CCRO is very important as they are one of the first links between the schools and the clubs.

The induction day allowed the CCROs to plan their schedules for the coming season and also to go through the various drills and games that they will be implementing with the playing groups throughout the year.

We caught up with second year CCRO, Freddie Davies, after the day of training to learn more about what he does as a CCRO and the importance of the role within the community.

Speaking about his role the last year he said:

“This last year I was going into primary schools and secondary schools and giving kids a taste of what rugby is like, whether that be the first time they ever played or refining their skills.

“Our main aim was that they enjoyed the game and then we would connect them through our coaching to local clubs with the hopes that we would continue to grow the sport around the province.”

When asked what he enjoys most about the role Freddie said:

“I really enjoy the small bits and pieces where you come in a week later and all the kids are excited to see you because they know you are about to have a good, fun session.

“From a coaching perspective it is really great to teach a child something on one week and then for them to come back the next week and either ask you a question about it or perform that skill you taught them or helped them to refine a week prior.”
