Bruff Win U18 Final

Bruff overcame Young Munster by a scoreline of 22-11 in the Munster U18 final played in glorious weather at Thomond Park today.

Outhalf Josh Page opened the scoring with a penalty after a quarter of an hour of play. However the lead was short lived as Paul Downes levelled the score 5 minutes later.

The first try came on the half hour mark when Ireland U18 Club International Brian Fanning went over in the right hand corner for a well worked score. Downes was unsuccessful with the side-line conversion.

From the re-start Bruff were penalised and Page made no mistake with Young Munster’s second penalty attempt of the day to make it 8-6 in Bruff’s favour.

On the stroke of half-time Bruff extended the lead when outside centre Jack O’Grady scored their second try which Downs narrowly failed to convert. The half time whistle then blew with the score reading Bruff 13, Young Munster 6.

Bruff wasted no time increasing their advantage in the second half with Downes adding his second penalty of the match to push their lead out to 16-6.

Young Munster were far from done however and some good play was rewarded with a 50th minute try to winger Aaron Diviney. Page was unable to add the extras.

Two further penalties to Downes kept Bruff’s nose in front and they ran out worthy champions finishing up 22-11
