Junior Rugby Roundup & Results

Muskerry booked their place in the Second Round of the Munster Junior Cup as Clanwilliam defeat Newport in Division 2 to send Newport down to Division 3 next season.

Dolphin went down to another heavy defeat in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League after a 55-32 home defeat by UCD. Dolphin trailed 31-3 with Barry Keeshan kicking a penalty. Two tries from Ryan Murphy and one each from Eamonn Mills, Damian Attridge and John Leahy and two Rory Scannell conversions at least earned the home side a bonus point.

Muskerry advanced to the second round of the Munster Junior Cup with a 21-10 home win over Bandon. They led 14-3 at half time with tries from Darragh Masterson and George O’Mahony and Masterson converted both. Richard Walsh kicked a penalty for Bandon. James Roche scored a third try for the winners and Jonathan Buckley converted. Bandon replied with a penalty try which Walsh converted.

St Senan’s qualified for the final of the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Shield after a hard earned 20-18 win over neighbours Ennis. Brian Collins scored two tries for Senan’s and Declan Row added two penalties and two conversions. Dave Murphy and Paddy Harding had tries for Ennis and Dylan Tynan O’Mahony kicked a conversion, penalty and a drop goal.

Champions Kanturk completed their Munster Junior League Division One campaign with a 24-10 bonus point win away to Galbally on Friday night. Paul Cotter, Mark Healy, Sean Cremin and Peter Earlie scored tries for the Duhallow side and Healy kicked two conversions. Jack Donovan replied for the home side with two tries.

Clonmel defeated Skibbereen 17-10 to finish as runners up to Kanturk. The Tipperary raced into a 17-0 lead with tries from Morgan Lyons, Luke Hogan and David Lonergan and a conversion by Conor Cooney. Shane Newman kicked a penalty for Skibbereen on the stroke of half time to leave the score 17-3. Eight minutes into the second half Kieran Shannon scored a try for the home side and Newman converted.

Mallow beat St. Mary’s 20-17 with tries from Rory McSharry and Michael Sweeny and an Andy Cashman penalty gave Mallow a 13-5 interval lead. Brian Purcell replied with a try for the Saints. Hugh Barry scored a third try for Mallow and Cashman converted while the Limerick side had tries from Brian Downey and Fionn Scannell with Ben Martin kicking one conversion.

This result was not enough the keep Mallow off the foot of the table as Waterpark defeated Tralee 14-13 and keep alive a slim hope of avoiding relegation, should Kanturk qualify for the All Ireland League next season.

Waterpark had tries from Eoin O’Connor and Ivan Kiersey. Paddy Kiersey converted both. James O’Neill scored a try for Tralee and Kieran Crowley converted and also added two penalties.

Clonakilty defeated Old Christians 58-33 in a fifteen try feast at The Vale. Clonakilty raced into a 58-0 lead with tries from Ethan Jennings, Eoin O’Neill, Conor O’Regan, Aidan Foley, Phelim O’Neill, Phillip Poillot, Courtney Canning, Luke O’Shea, Thomas Keogh and Stephen Cotter. David Lombard kicked two conversions and Ciaran Calnan and O’Shea added one each. Niall McCarthy scored two tries for Old Christians and Aidan Ware, Gary Ross and Cian O’Connell got one apiece. Stuart Lee kicked two penalties and a conversion.

Clanwilliam defeated Newport 39-11 in the only game in Division Two. A result that will mean Third Division rugby for Newport next season. Craig Quinlan scored two tries for Clanwilliam and Tom Murphy, Brendan Quinlan and Brian Rahilly got one each. Rahilly kicked three conversions and two penalties and Chris Doyle also added a conversion.

Ballincollig defeated Carrick-on-Suir 32-17 to go top of the Third Division. Padraig Flynn scored four tries for Ballincollig and Kevin Doyle got a try, penalty and two conversions. David Kiersey scored two tries for Carrick’ and Charlie Boland converted both and also added a penalty.

Ballincollig now hold a four point lead over second placed Abbeyfeale ahead of their final game in two weeks time.

A try from Daryl Ryan and a conversion and three penalties by Conor Foley helped Dungarvan to a 16-0 home win over Scariff.

Charleville defeated Carrigaline 25-5 with two tries from Ger Sheehan and one by PJ O’Connor. Peadar Cronin kicked two penalties and two conversions. Kieran Kelleher was Carrigaline’s try scorer.

Bandon and Corca Dhuibhne will contest the Junior Two South League Final. Bandon defeated Highfield 19-16. Olan Crowley, Pat Prendergast and Mark Phelan scored tries for Bandon and Andrew Willis and Rob O’Sullivan each added a conversion. Donal Moriarty replied with a try for Highfield and Dave Eustace kicked three penalties and a conversion.

Corca Dhuibhne defeated Cork Constitution 31-19 with tries from Micheal Breathnach, Kevin Moriarty, Billy O’Connor, Conchubhar Begley and Ciaran O’Cuilean. Shane Griffin kicked three conversions. David Hayes, Jeff Young and Dave O’Brien were Con’s try scorers and Robert Caira added two conversions.

Midleton won the Junior Three League South with a 19-12 away win over Sunday’s Well. Ken O’Connell scored a try for Midleton and Shane Wiggins kicked a conversion and four penalties. Kenny Barry replied with two tries for the ‘Well and Eoin O’Connell added a conversion.
