Leinster clubs continue to dominate the two top Divisions in the Men’s All Ireland League, as Cork Constitution come out on top in the big Munster derby clash at Tom Clifford Park and U.L. Bohemian have extended their lead at the top of the Women’s All Ireland League.
A gritty fight back by Cork Constitution saw them defeat Young Munster 29-26 in an eight-try thriller at Tom Clifford Park in Division 1A of the All Ireland League. Hubert Gilvarry was the man of the match scoring three tries for the Limerick side and Bailey Faloon got their other try. Shane O’Leary kicked three conversions. Cork Con’ replied with two tries from Eoghan Smyth and one each by Peter Hyland and Aidan Moynihan, with Moynihan kicking three conversions and a penalty to keep the Temple Hill side’s chances alive of a top four finish.
Leaders St Mary’s College maintained their position with a 49-15 home win over bottom side Nenagh Ormond. William Coffey and Sean O’Brien scored tries for Nenagh and Charlie O’Doherty kicked a conversion and a penalty.
In Division 1B both Garryowen and Highfield slipped further away from the playoff place after suffering home defeats.
Garryowen lost at home to Dublin University 27-21, with Alex Wood and Finn McCall scoring tries for the “Light Blues” and Lachlan Stewart kicked a conversion and three penalties.
Leaders Old Wesley had to battle hard for their 21-17 away win over Highfield. Nicky Greene and Travis Coomey scored tries for Highfield and Shane O’Riordan kicked two conversions and a penalty.
UCC moved off the bottom of the table with a 19-14 away win at Stradbrook against Blackrock College. The students raced into a 16-0 lead early in the second half with tries from Gene O’Leary Kareem and Ben O’Connor. Charlie O’Shea kicked three penalties but a late rally by the Dublin side nearly caused an upset.
Shannon moved into the playoff places in Division 2A following their 21-0 home win against Galway Corinthians. Two tries from Matt Te Pou both converted by Jamie Gavin gave the hosts a 14-0 interval lead. Josh Costello added a third and Gavin converted.
Old Crescent moved out of the relegation zone after a 22-17 home win over Wanderers. Dan Hurley, Cillian Toland and Jack O’Mahony scored tries for the Limerick side and Jeff Williams kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Cashel are just outside the relegation zone after their 25-19 home defeat by Greystones. Alan Flannery scored two tries for the Tipperary side and David Upton got one. John O’Sullivan kicked two conversions.
UL Bohemian still remain in second place in Division 2B, despite losing 24-13 away to Sligo.
Clonmel are the new leaders in Division 2C following their 29-21 away win in Midleton. Freddie Davies scored two tries for Clonmel and Brandon Delicato and Mick Connellan got one each. Josef O’Connor kicked three conversions and a penalty. Johannes du Toit, Ryan Lehane and Seamus Lyne replied with tries for Midleton and Lyne kicked three conversions.
Thomond suffered their second successive defeat and also top spot after they lost 40-28 away to Monkstown. Luke Fitzgerald scored two tries for Thomond and Evan Maher and Ryan O’Donovan Ahern got one apiece. Evan Cusack converted all four tries.
Bruff are in fifth place following their 30-25 home win against Belfast Harlequins. Cathal Garvey, Neheun Rossetti, John Bateman and Andrew O’Byrne scored tries for Bruff. Paul Collins kicked two penalties and two conversions.
Dolphin had a resounding 48-38 victory away to Ballyclare. Scott Sexton scored two of Dolophin’s eight tries. Cameron O’Shaughnesst, Sam Boyle, Dalton O’Shaughnessy Eoin Sheehan, Matt Barry and Ritchie Heaslip were the other try scorers. Hunter Yarrell and Daryl Foley each kicked two conversions.
UL Bohemian extended their lead at the top of the Women’s All Ireland League after their 43-10 away win at Wicklow. Beth Buttimer (3), Éabha Nic Dhonnacha (2) and Lily Brady were amongst the winners try scorers. Caitriona Finn and Kate Flannery each kicked two conversions.
Blackrock College moved into second place, four points behind the leaders after their 44-12 home win against Ennis. Caoilfhionn Conwy Morrissey and Micaela Glynn scored tries for Ennis and Patricia Coote kicked a conversion.
Ballincollig earned a maximum 31-10 away victory at Tullow. Brighid Twohig scored two tries for Ballincollig and Alex Good, Kate O’Sullivan and Emelia Deane got one each. Emma Connolly kicked three conversions.
