All Ireland League Roundup

Young Munster claimed their first win in the Men’s All Ireland League, as U.L Bohemian and Thomond continued to impress in their Divisions.

Having been so close to victory in their last few games in Division 1A, Young Munster came good at Tom Clifford Park with a 21-13 win against Old Belvedere. The winners led 14-6 at the interval. Liam McMahon scored two tries for the Cookies and Stephen McLoughlin got one. Shane O’Leary kicked a conversion and a penalty, and Kelvin Langan added a conversion also.

Cork Constitution suffered their third successive defeat but claimed two points from their encounter with St. Mary’s College at Templeville Road, as they lost 27-26. Jack Kelleher, Billy Scannell, Matthew Bowen, and Aidan Moynihan scored tries for the Cork side. Moynihan kicked two conversions and Darragh French one.

Nenagh Ormond’s disastrous season continued as they lost 62-17 away to Lansdowne. Angus Blackmore and Fionn Healy were the Nenagh try scorers, and Conor McMahon kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Old Wesley are the new leaders in Division 1B after their 41-17 win over Garryowen at Dooradoyle. Sean Sexton and Des Fitzgerald were the Garryowen try scorers. Tom Wood kicked a conversion and a penalty, and Lachlan Stewart also added a conversion.

U.C.C. are still propping up the table after they suffered a 22-13 away defeat to Highfield. The students led 13-7 at half time with a try from Sean Dunne and a conversion and two penalties by Charlie O’Shea. Highfield replied with tries from Darragh Fitzgerald, Shane Buckley and Ryan Gordon. Shane O’Riordan kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Shannon were the only Munster winners in Division 2A, following their 41-10 home win against Ballymena. Oisin Minogue scored two of Shannon’s six tries, with Alex Long, James Conway, Neal Moylett and Alex Lautsou also crossing the whitewash, Jamie Gavin kicked four conversions and a penalty.

Old Crescent lost at home to Galway Corinthians 20-10. Dan Hurley scored Crescent’s try and Jeff Williams kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Cashel and Dungannon played out a 25-25 draw at Cashel. Rob Carney, Tom Tobin, and Ciaran Ryan scored tries for Cashel and John O’Sullivan contributed two conversions, a penalty and a drop goal.

U.L. Bohemians remain a point behind leaders Galwegians in Division 2B, after their 29-21 away win against Clogher Valley. Paul Clancy, Greg Fitzgerald, Kean Sheehy and Darren Ferrar were the Limerick side’s try scorers. Cian Casey kicked three conversions and a penalty.

Thomond preserved their 100% record in Division 2C, with another bonus point victory, this time they defeated Belfast Harlequins 55-10 at Liam Fitzgerald Park. Colin Slater scored two of their nine tries, with Luke Costello, Jake Connolly, Jason Kiely, Evan Maher, Kian McGrath, Suliano Mainavolau and Sam Birrane being the other try scorers, Evan Cusack kicked five conversions.

Clonmel remain in second place after their 14-10 away win at Monkstown. Henry Buttimer and Freddie Davies were the Clonmel try scorers and Josef O’Connor converted both.

Midleton had to pull out all the stops to overcome Malahide at the Towns Park with 43-34 win. Joannes du Toit scored three tries for Midleton and Ted Coleman, Flor McCarthy and William Meyer also got tries, as well as being awarded a penalty try. Coleman kicked three conversions.

A strong first half saw Bruff defat Dolphin 21-15 at Kilballyowen Park. Jess Bowring scored two tries for Bruff and Andrew O’Brien got one. John Bateman converted all three tries. Cameron O’Shaughnessy and James Vaughan replied with tries for Dolphin and Ryan Foley added a conversion and a penalty.
