All Ireland League Roundup

The play-off places in this year’s Energia Men’s All Ireland League have been decided after the completion of the league phase.

The First Division Play-offs will be an all Dublin affair, after Terenure College’s 19-15 win over UCD just held off Cork Constitution’s late challenge.

Cork Constitution kept their hopes alive right to the end with a 38-12 home win over Lansdowne. Danny Sheahan scored three of Con’s six tries, with David Hyland, Rob Heddermann and Aidan Moynihan getting the other five pointers. Moynihan kicked four conversions.

Young Munster finished their campaign with 22-12 home win over Ballynahinch. Andrew Smith. Orin Burke, and Liam McMahon scored tries for ‘Munsters and Kelvin Langan kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Nenagh Ormond finished their campaign in the topflight with another defeat losing away to Old Belvedere 61-12. Luke Kerr and Matthew Burke scored tries for Nenagh and Charlie O’Doherty kicked a conversion.

In Division 1B, U.C.C. defeated Garryowen 24-10 at the Mardyke but the bonus point win was not enough to keep them out of the relegation play-off, after Naas had a surprising 47-26 home win against Instonians. Danny McCarthy, Evan Clarke, Chris Barrett and Jack Casey scored tries for College and Charlie O’Shea kicked two conversions. Finn McCall and Sean Rennison replied with tries for Garryowen.

Highfield lost away to bottom side Queen’s University 31-19, Liam McCarthy, Rob Murphy and Aidan Keane scored tries for Highfield and McCarthy kicked two conversions.

Shannon already guaranteed a promotion play-off place from Division 2A, recorded a 24-12 away win over Cashel with tries from Neil Cronin, Alex Long and Luke Moylan. Cillian O’Connor converted all three tries as well as a penalty. Joe Lawrence scored a try for Cashel, who were also awarded a penalty try.

A penalty from Jeff Williams was not enough for Old Crescent who lost away to Ballymena 45-3.

U.L. Bohemian finished second in Division 2B, after their 54-5 home win against Navan. Killian Dineen and Jordan Mills each scored two tries for Bohs and Darren Farrer, Darragh O’Gorman, Liam O’Shanahan and Sam Lynch got one each. Cian Casey kicked six conversions and O’Gorman one.

Clonmel finished top of Division 2C after their 32-29 away win against Clogher Valley. Keith Melbourne scored two tries for Clonmel and David Coyne and Freddie Davies got one each. Josef O’Connor kicked three conversions and two penalties.

Thomond remained in third place after their 30-12 away defeat by Bective Rangers. Jake Connolly and Jason Kiely scored tries for Thomond and Evan Cussack kicked a conversion.

Dolphin defeated Belfast Harlequins 31-14 at Virgin Media Park, a result that saw the Ulster side relegated to Junior rugby next season on points difference. Max Abbott scored three tries for Dolphin, Darragh Buckley and Brian O’Mahony got one each. Hunter Yarrell kicked three conversions.

Midleton won the Munster derby defeating Bruff at the Co. Limerick venue 26-14. Midleton led 26-0 at half time with tries from Jack Colbert, Aaron Leahy, Andrew Beyrooti and Idris Rqibi. Seamus Lyne kicked three conversions. Clem McAuliffe scored a try for Bruff which Paul Collins converted. They were also awarded a penalty try.

Nenagh Ormond are relegated form Division 1A and Old Wesley are promoted to Division 1A.

Queens University are relegated to Division 2A and M.U. Barnhall are promoted to Division 1B.

Banbridge are relegated to Division 2B and Galwegians will take their place in Division 2A next season.

The Promotion and relegation play-off semi-finals are set for 18th April.

Division 2A Relegation/Promotion Play-Offs: Old Crescent v Sligo, U.L. Bohemian v Clogher Valley.

Division 2C Play-Offs: Clonmel v Dolphin, Bective Rangers v Thomond.
