All Ireland League Roundup
28th March 2026 By Leonard Allen
With just one round of games remaining in the Energia Men’s All Ireland League, the promotion and relegation issues have become clearer as the Women’s All Ireland League concluded with the four sides known that will contest the playoffs.
It looks likely that no Munster side will contest the Division 1A play-offs for the first time.
Young Munster despite their 22-20 away win against St. Mary’s College cannot make the playoffs, because of Terenure College’s 21-5 home win against Cork Constitution. Jake O’Riordan, Luke McCready and Fionn Gibbons scored tries for Young Munster and Kelvin Langan kicked two conversions and a penalty.
A try from Rob Hedderman was not enough for Cork Constitution in their defeat away to Terenure College and they will need results to go in their favour next weekend, if they are to make the play-offs.
Nenagh Ormond scored seven tries in their final home game in the topflight as they lost 55-49 to U.C.D. Patrick Scully scored two tries for the Tipperary side and Conor O’Shaughnessy, Derek Corcoran, Mateo Sentous, Luke Kerr and Brian O’Rourke got one each. Conor McMahon kicked four conversions and Charlie O’Doherty three.
Garryowen secured their place in the Division 1B promotion play-off after their 68-21 home win against bottom side Queens University. Sean Sexton, Tom Ironside Wickham and Brian Fitzgerald each scored two tries, and Finn McCall, Ben Leahy Lachlan Stewart and Luca Cleary got one apiece. Stewart kicked nine conversions.
Highfield’s promotion hopes ended, when they suffered a 53-24 home defeat to Blackrock College. Daragh Fitzgerald, James Cronin, Noah Patterson and Rob Murphy scored tries for Highfield and Shane Buckley and Liam McCarthy each kicked a conversion.
U.C.C. face a big task next week, if they are to avoid a relegation play-off, after their narrow 19-17 defeat away to Instonians. Stephen O’Shaughnessy scored two tries for the Students and Cian Murphy one. Charlie O’Shea kicked one conversion.
Shannon already assured off a play-off place in the Division 2A promotion race, defeated leaders M.U. Barnhall 28-12 on the back pitch in Thomond Park. Cian O’Halloran, Jamie Conway, David Smith and Oisin Minogue scored tries for Shannon and all four were converted by Cillian O’Connor.
Cashel defeated Old Crescent 47-13 at Takumi Park and this result sees Old Crescent being involved in the Division 2A relegation battle. Alan Flannery scored four tries for Cashel, Rob Carney got two, and Joe Callery one. Ben Twomey kicked six conversions. Sean Monaghan replied with a try for Old Crescent and Jeff Williams kicked a conversion and two penalties.
U.L. Bohemian moved up to second place in Division 2B after their 31-20 away win at Skerries. Evan Lacey scored two tries for Bohs and Darragh O’Gorman, Greg Fitzgerald and Paul Clancy got one each. Cian Casey kicked three conversions.
In Division 2C, leaders Clonmel lost at home to Dolphin 33-21. Cameron O’Shaughnessy, Ryan Foley, Craig O’Connell, Eoghan Sheehan and Richie Heaslip scored tries for Dolphin. Hunter Yarrell kicked four conversions. Tom O’Dea replied with two tries for Clonmel and Davey Coyne got one. Josef O’Connor kicked three conversions.
Thomond remain in third place after their 17-10 home win over Ballyclare. Evan Cusack and Jake Connolly scored tries for Thomond and Cusack converted both and also added a penalty.
A last minute try from Alejandro Martinez Jimenez earned Midleton a 34-33 home win against Bective Rangers and thus preserved their Senior status for another season. Seamus Lyne, Kyle Read, Ted Coleman and Cillian Lynch were Midleton’s other try scorers. Lyne kicked three conversions and a penalty.
Bruff suffered a 36-24 away defeat to Monkstown. John Bateman scored two tries for Bruff and Clem McAuliffe and Mike Frawley got one each. Paul Collins kicked two conversions.
