All Ireland League Roundup

The Pressure is on Cork Constitution and Young Munster to qualify for a play-off place in Division 1A of the All Ireland League, as both lost, with just three games left to play.

Cork Constitution are still in fifth place in the table, four points behind Lansdowne, after their 28-26 defeat away to Ballynahinch. Sean Condon, Dan Punch, Adam Maher and Michael Cogan scored tries for Con’ and Dylan Hicks kicked three conversions.

Young Munster suffered a 31-13 defeat away to Lansdowne, with Alan Kennedy scoring their try and Shane O’Leary kicked a conversion and two penalties.

Nenagh Ormond scored five tries in their 40-31 home defeat by Terenure College. Patrick Scully and Davey Gleeson each scored two tries for Nenagh and Jake O’Kelly got one. Conor McMahon added three conversions.

Garryowen are closing in on a play-off place in Division 1B, after a late rally saw them defeat Blackrock College 31-28 at Dooradoyle. Max Clein scored four tries for the Light Blues and Rory Woods got one, with Lachlin Stewart kicking three conversions.

Highfield still remain in fourth place, three points ahead of Garryowen, after they lost at home 24-21 to Naas. James Cronin scored two tries for Highfield and Eoin Keating one. All three tries were converted by Shane Buckley.

A late converted try saw Dublin University come from 12-0 down at half time to defeat U.C.C. 13-12 at College Park, and this sees U.C.C. now in the relegation zone. David Cogan and Stephen O’Shaughnessy scored tries for the Cork Students and Harry Murphy kicked a conversion.

In Division 2A, Shannon closed the gap to three points on second place Dungannon, after a late try from Neill Cronin saw Shannon beat the Ulster side 23-19. Harry Long and Jamie Conway also scored tries for Shannon and Cillian O’Connor kicked two penalties and a conversion.

Cashel eased their relegation worries with an impressive 73-14 home win over bottom side Banbridge. Alan Flannery scored five of Cashel’s eleven tries, Marcel Strydom got three, and Cathal Ryan, Tim Townsend and Brendan Crosse got one each. Ben Twomey kicked two conversions and John O’Sullivan seven.

Old Crescent suffered 24-21 home defeat by M.U. Barnhall and now look almost certainly like they will be involved in the relegation play-offs. Timmy Duggan, Evan Creaven and Jeff Williams scored tries for Crescent, John Hurley kicked two conversions and Duggan one.

Despite the 26-24 away defeat by Rainey, U.L. Bohemian picked up two valuable points in their promotion play-off hopes. Oisin Fagan scored three tries for the Limerick side and Padraic Galvin got one. Cian Casey kicked two conversions.

Clonmel recorded a 66-14 home win over Belfast Harlequins to retain top spot in Division 2C. Michael Connellan and Freddie Davies each scored two tries for Clonmel. Josef O’Connor, Ben O’Dwyer, Jason Monua, Zac Cahalane, Davy Coyne and Luke Hogan got a try each, with O’Connor kicking eight conversions.

Thomond held on to third place after their 34-24 home win against bottom side Malahide. Jamie McGarry (2), Sam Birrane, Colin Slater and Jason Kiely scored tries for Thomond and Evan Cusack kicked a penalty and three conversions.

Dolphin won the Cork derby defeating Midleton 20-17 at the East Cork venue with a late penalty from Daryl Foley. Hunter Yarrell, Darragh Buckley and Matt Barry scored tries for Dolphin and Yarrell added one conversion. Joannes du Toit and Jack Colbert replied with tries for the home side and Seamus Lyne converted both and also added a penalty.

Bruff lost at home to Ballyclare 34-19. Shane Duggan, Clem McAuliffe and Wiktor Wilczuk were the Bruff try scorers and Paul Collins kicked two conversions.

It was a good day for the Munster sides in the Women’s All Ireland League, with all three winning.

Leaders U.L. Bohemian defeated Old Belvedere 44-21 in Dublin. Lucia Linn scored two tries for the winners and Ciara McLoughlin, Eabha Nic Dhonnacha, Clodagh O’Halloran, Grainne Burke and Rachel Allen got one each. Nic Dhonnacha kicked three conversions.

Ennis defeated Wicklow 38-36 with two tries from Saher Hamden and one each by Caoilfhionn Morrissey, Aoibhin Donnelly, Aibheann Hahessy and Patricia Coote. Megan O’Connor kicked four conversions.

Ballincollig were 24-19 away winners at Cooke. Awatere McLean Wanoa, Brigid Twohig, Niamh Crotty and Aoife Fleming scored tries for Ballincollig and Emma Connelly kicked two conversions.
