All Ireland League Roundup

It was a bad day for the Munster sides in the top tier of the All Ireland League, as all three lost, but both Cork Constitution and Young Munster remain in contention for a play-off place with four games left to play.

In the top game of the day at Temple Hill, leaders St, Mary’s College remain in pole position, after their 57-19 victory against Cork Constitution. The visitors led 24-7 at the interval. Sean Condon, Adam Maher and Louis Kahn scored tries for the home side and Dylan Hicks kicked two conversions.

Young Munster lost 19-15 away to Old Belvedere. Shane O’Leary scored a first half try for Young Munster, who trailed 7-5 at half time. Jake O’Riordan scored the visitors second try and O’Leary kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Nenagh Ormond are still in search of their first win of the campaign as they suffered a 45-19 home defeat by Lansdowne. Jake O’Kelly, Derek Corcoran and Conor O’Shaughnessy were the Nenagh try scorers and Conor McMahon and James Finn each kicked a conversion.

In Division 1B, Garryowen defeated leaders Old Wesley 24-19 at Energia Park, but their recent good run might not be enough for them to clinch a playoff place, as they are seven points off fourth place. Des Fitzgerald, JJ O’Neill and Daniel O’Connell scored tries for Garryowen and Lachlan Stewart kicked two conversions.

Highfield won the Cork derby, defeating U.C.C. 21-15 at the Mardyke, to remain in fourth place, but points difference keeps College outside the relegation places. Darragh Fitzgerald, Jamie Shanahan and James Brugger scored tries for Highfield and Shane Buckley converted all three and also added a penalty. Jason Aherne and Mark Hetherington replied with tries for the home side and Harry Murphy kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Shannon suffered a 16-10 defeat away to Ballymena in Division 2A, but still remain in third place. Cian McCann and Callum Black were the Shannon side’s try scorers.

Cashel suffered a 33-31 away defeat at Dungannon, but the two points they collected keeps them five points off the relegation places. Marcel Strydom scored three tries for the Tipperary side and Tim Townsend and Alan Flannery got a try each. Ben Twomey kicked three conversions.

Old Crescent remain in relegation trouble, after their 38-27 away defeat by Galway Corinthians. Brian Molloy scored two tries for Crescent and Joe Rickard and John Toland got one apiece. Jeff Williams kicked two conversions, and John Hurley added a penalty.

U.L. Bohemian boosted their play-off hopes with a 35-28 home win against second placed Clogher Valley in Division 2B. Sean Quirke and Jordan Mills each scored two tries for Bohs and Jordan Mills got one. Cian Casey converted all five tries.

Clonmel remain top of Division 2C, after their 35-11 home win against Monkstown. Freddie Davis scored three of Clonmel’s five tries. Brendan Delicato and Keith Melbourne were the other try scorers. Josef O’Connor kicked two conversions and two penalties.

Two tries from Ryan O’Donovan Ahern helped Thomond to a 15-7 away win against Belfast Harlequins. Evan Cusack kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Midleton eased their relegation worries with a 24-15 win against bottom side Malahide. Sean Busteed, Ted Coleman, and Aaron Leahy scored tries for Midleton. Seamus Lyne kicked three conversions and a penalty.

Dolphin defeated Bruff 22-3 at Virgin Media Park, with tries from Dalton O’Shaughnessy, Daryl Foley and Finn Cowhig. Foley kicked two conversions and a penalty. Paul Collins replied with a penalty for Bruff.

In the Women’s All Ireland, holders U.L. Bohemian made it fifteen wins from fifteen with a 47-19 home win against near neighbours Ennis. Clara Barrett scored three of Bohs seven tries, Éabha Nic Dhonnacha got two and Chloe Pearse and Clodagh O’Halloran got one each. Dhonnacha kicked six conversions. Megan O’Connor, Fódhla Ní Bhraonáin and Caoilfhionn Conway Morrissey replied with tries for Ennis, and Bhraonáin kicked two conversions.
