AIL Weekend Roundup

Garryowen maintained their challenge in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League with a home win over Cork Constitution, while the top three places in Division 2C are occupied by Munster sides.

The big Munster derby at Dooradoyle saw Garryowen defeat Cork Constitution 23-19.
Two tries from Steve McMahon and one by Neil Cronin had Garryowen 15-13 ahead at half time. Jamie Murphy replied with a try for Con’ and Tomas Quinlan converted and added two penalties. Jamie Frawley and Quinlan exchanged penalties, before Quinlan’s fourth penalty put Con’ ahead 19-18 with seven minutes remaining.
Deep in injury time Alex Wotton got in for a try for Garryowen to maintain their unbeaten run.

Young Munster were defeated by UCD at the Belfield Bowl 56-22. Alan Kennedy, Sean Duggan and David Begley scored tries for the Limerick side and Paul Downes kicked two conversions and a penalty.

In Division 1B, Dolphin after two heavy defeats defeated UL Bohemian 28-13 on the back pitch in Thomond Park.
Two penalties from Robbie Bourke had UL Bohemian 6-0 ahead at half time. Two penalty tries and tries by Will Hanly and Niall Scannell were all converted by Barry Keeshan gave Dolphin a bonus point victory.
UL Bohes were also awarded a penalty try which Bourke converted.

Shannon are rooted to the foot of the table after their 45-12 by St. Mary’s College in Dublin.
John Shine and Stephen Fitzgerald scored tries for the Limerick side and Shane Airy converted one.

Cashel moved into fourth place in Division 2A with a last minute try gave them a 43-40 away win over Skerries.

Nenagh Ormond opened their campaign with a 36-13 home win over Queens University. Kevin Flaherty, Lemeki Viapula, Eathon Maloney, Darragh Hassey, Anthony Kavanagh and Eoin Gardner all scored tries and Mike Fogarty converted three.

UCC picked up a losing bonus point when they lost 34-27 away to Naas. Tim Clifford and Daniel Healy scored tries for the students who were also awarded a penalty try. Kevin O’Keeffe kicked three conversions and two penalties.

A last minute drop goal by Fiachra O’Loughlin earned Thomond a 22-21 home win over Banbridge. Eoin O’Connor, Wayne Mullany and Jamie McGarry scored tries for Thomond and John Lillis kicked two conversions.

Highfield moved into second place in Division 2B after their 29-15 away win over City of Armagh. James Daly and Marc Murphy scored tries for Highfield and Paddy O’Toole converted both and added five penalties.

Six penalties from the boot of Eoin Geary was not enough for Sunday’s Well who lost 23-18 at home to leaders City of Derry.

In Division 2C Bruff’s 17-15 away win to Navan sees them go top of the table. Brian Cahill and Brendan Deady scored tries for Bruff and Tony Cahill converted both and also added a penalty.

Old Crescent defeated Kanturk 18-11 at Knocknacolan to move into second place.

Midleton ended Wanderers unbeaten start with a 21-15 win at the Towns Park. Ryan Lehane and Mike Sinclair scored tries for Midleton and Stuart Lee kicked three penalties and a conversion.
