Barry McGann RIP
10th November 2025 By The Editor
Barry McGann after being inducted into the Munster Rugby Hall of Fame in 2017.
It is with great sadness that Munster Rugby have learned of the passing of Barry McGann.
A hugely popular character, Barry was inducted into the Munster Rugby Hall of Fame in 2017 to honour a brilliant playing career.
He lined out for Presentation Brothers College Cork, Cork Constitution, Lansdowne, Munster and Ireland, winning two Senior and two Junior Cup medals with PBC and three Munster Cup medals with Cork Constitution, along with many other League and Charity Cup trophies.
An out-half gifted with the deftest of touches with the boot, Barry won 35 caps for Munster and 25 caps for Ireland, scoring 60 points in the green jersey which included two penalties against All Blacks at Lansdowne Road in the famous drawn game of 1973.
An all-round sportsman, the Cork native was an accomplished sprinter in his early years, a single handicap golfer, was capped for Ireland Youths in soccer, and played for Shelbourne in the League of Ireland.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. His passing will be felt across Munster and Irish rugby by all those who knew him.
