Video: Zebo Sets New Milestones

This weekend will see Munster’s new all-time record try scorer, Simon Zebo, become the eleventh player in the current squad to make his 100th appearance for Munster. Incidentally, the 26-year-old also won his first cap away to Connacht at the Sportsground.

When taking to the field on Saturday, the 26-year-old will join teammates Tomás O'LearyDenis HurleyDonnacha RyanBilly HollandKeith EarlsTommy O'DonnellIan KeatleyBJ BothaDuncan Williams and Stephen Archer in reaching the career milestone in red.

The Cork-man’s first appearance came as a sub-academy player away to the western province in April 2010 and after just one year in the full academy programme, the winger and fullback showed enough promise to secure a senior contract at the beginning of the 2011/12 season, making his European debut against Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets the following December.

A month later he famously scored a hat-trick of tries away to Northampton Saints as Munster booked a place in the 2012 Heineken Cup quarter-final and since then Zebo has become the province's leading try scorer for the past four seasons; Munster’s league record try scorer (28 tries) and Munster’s all-time record try scorer on 43 tries.  A brace scored against Zebre in Thomond Park last month saw him overtake Anthony Horgan’s previous record of 41.

On the international front Zebo has won 25 Irish caps – scoring 7 tries – and was a tourist with the British and Irish Lions in Australia in 2013. The speedster made his debut in green against New Zealand in Eden Park in June 2012 and most recently made three appearances at Rugby World Cup 2015 before starting four of Ireland’s five games in this year’s 6 Nations.

After training in Irish Independent Park today, the man himself chatted about his new try record and reaching 100 caps for his native province.
