Scarlets Showdown On Saturday

Munster travel to Llanelli this weekend as they face Scarlets in Round 15 of the Guinness PRO12. Saturday afternoon’s fixture will see the league trial Hawk-Eye technology for the first time.

Guinness PRO12 will trial the Hawk-Eye technology system with the support of SKY Sports in a move which organisers hope will assist player welfare and match officiating going forward.

It’s all to play for this weekend as both sides look to consolidate their respective play-off ambitions. Scarlets (currently 7^th) have already stated their aim of finishing in the top six so need to make their home games count, especially as their close rivals Edinburgh (8^th) are also at home in this round.

Last weekend’s action saw Munster climb to second on the PRO12 table, however Parc y Scarlets has not proved to be a happy hunting ground in recent seasons with the province not winning a league encounter there since April 2011.

And, if Scarlets’ home league form is anything to go by, Anthony Foley’s charges face the stiffest of challenges if they are to make it consecutive victories over Welsh opposition. The Llanelli outfit remain unbeaten at home in the league this season with an impressive six wins and one draw (to Ulster in September), and will enter Saturday’s encounter buoyed by an impressive 32-14 bonus point victory over Connacht.

Munster may have won four of their five encounters with Welsh regions this season, however, with only one victory in their last five away games in all tournaments, the province have it all to do if they are to continue winning ways and build on the momentum of last weekend’s 33-16 win over Cardiff Blues at Irish Independent Park.
