Bohane & Holland Visit Schools Robotic Challenge

Munster’s Cian Bohane and Johnny Holland last week visited the inaugural national finals of the VEX IQ Robotics Competition which featured 18 schools teams from across Cork city and county.

The event, run in partnership with EMC Ireland, Lifetime Labs and Cork Institute of Technology, took place last Friday at CIT.

The VEX IQ Robotics Challenge is an innovative platform designed to promote interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at national school level. Each year, an engineering challenge is presented in the form of a game. Primary school students, with guidance from their teachers and mentors, use the VEX Robotics Design System to build innovative robots to participate in the competition.

There are three challenges the teams can compete in, a programming skills challenge, a driver skills challenge and a teamwork challenge.

In addition to having a great time and building amazing robots, through their participation in the VEX Robotics Competition and their work within their team, students will learn many academic and life skills, including programming, team work, project management and collaboration.
