Moseley Next For Munster A

Following last Friday’s 18-23 defeat to Worcester Warriors in Pool 3 of the British & Irish Cup, Munster A travel to Moseley this weekend in the knowledge that a bonus point victory will secure them quarter-final qualification.

Warriors’ defeat of Munster at CIT guaranteed the Englishmen knock-out qualification, and should they achieve a home win over bottom placed Nottingham this weekend, are certain of a home quarter-final.

Munster now hope to secure qualification as one of the three best runners up.

For Munster, earning a bonus point win away to Moseley is a challenge that’s a lot easier said than done. Still to achieve a bonus point win this season, Munster have scored just 10 tries in five matches.

Last time out against Moseley, the Birmingham outfit ran them close on home soil. With both sides scoring two tries at Clonmel RFC in Round 1 last October, ill-discipline would ultimately separate the sides on the day with the in-form Rory Scannell kicking five penalties and guiding Munster to a 27-21 victory.

Not likely to make the same mistakes this weekend, Moseley will also take a lot of confidence from their most recent performance in which they made it back to back B&I Cup victories over Nottingham and secured their first bonus point victory of the campaign.

With Bristol Rugby, Rotherham Titans, Worcester Warriors, Doncaster and Leinster A already qualified, a first bonus-point win of the season would guarantee Munster A a place in the last eight regardless of how Cornish Pirates fare at Bedford, while anything less would leave them dependant on other results.

A Super Saturday afternoon of B&I Cup rugby sees all final pool games kick off at 2pm.
