Hat-trick For Conway

Emerging Ireland yesterday enjoyed a massive 66-0 win over Russia in the Nations Cup, with the game lasting just 45 minutes before being called off due to adverse weather.

Munster’s Andrew Conway scored a hat-trick of tries, with Ian Keatley, Tommy O’Donnell and new Munster signing Robin Copeland also touching down.

Other try scorers for Emerging Ireland included Craig Gilroy, Niall Annett and Paul Marshall.

Keatley kicked five conversions, with JJ Hanrahan landing another three.

Heavy rain, thunder and lightning meant that referee Ian Davies called a halt to proceedings early, as the conditions were deemed unplayable amid concerns for player safety at Stadionul National Arcul de Triumf.

As the storm persisted for 30 minutes in duration, under official tournament rules, the game was abandoned and the score at the time of the game being abandoned was adopted as the final result.

Emerging Ireland still have two games to play in the Nations Cup and will face Uruguay on Wednesday.
