Munster A Face Plymouth In Waterford Tonight

Munster A host English Championship side Plymouth Albion at Waterford’s Regional Sports Centre in a vital British and Irish Cup game tonight (ko 7:30pm).

Head Coach Peter Malone has named a strong side Munster A they look to bounce back from last week’s 17-7 defeat to tonight’s opponents.

A win would move Malone's side level on points with Plymouth at the top of Pool 4 in the British and Irish Cup.

The squad contains a mix of youth and experience as an array of future Munster stars line up alongside some stars of today.

28-year-old Billy Holland is the most experienced player in the side with 80 Munster caps to his name with former South African U20 captain CJ Stander another notable inclusion.

Both players featured off the bench in the Heineken Cup clash against Perpignan last weekend and will be looking to make a big impact for the A side.

The team is led by 21-year-old hooker Niall Scannell, who captained the Ireland U20s at the 2012 Junior World Championships.

Ronan O’Mahony, who scored a hat-trick in pre-season against London Irish, starts at full-back and will be looking to maintain his good form with Munster A that has seen him score three tries in three appearances.

Barry O’Mahony, brother of Ronan, returns to the side at flanker alongside 23-year-old Dave O’Callaghan who has 27 caps for the province.

Johnny Holland recently made his Munster debut and starts at out-half tonight and he’ll be partnered in the half-backs by experienced Cork Con scrum-half Gerry Hurley.

Niall Kenneally starts his first Munster A game at first centre with Cian Bohane, who made his Munster debut in the opening game of the season against Edinburgh, outside him.

20-year-old Darren Sweetnam comes back into the side on the right wing with Irish U20 international Alex Wootton making his first Munster A appearance on the opposite flank.

Captain Scannell is joined in the front-row by Alan Cotter and John Ryan who has made 17 Munster appearances since his debut in 2011.

It’s a vastly experienced second-row as 28-cap Ian Nagle joins Billy Holland in the second-row.

Young Munster centre Dan Goggin has been named on the Munster A replacements bench for the first time.
