Holders Cork Constitution Reach ODM Financial Munster Senior Cup Final

Cork Constitution will face Garryowen in this season’s ODM Financial Munster Senior Cup final at a Limerick venue. The exact date and venue has yet to be confirmed.

U.C.C. 11, Cork Constitution 21.

In a hard fought contest at the Mardyke it was holders Cork Constitution who booked their place in next month’s final in Limerick.

The visitors enjoyed all the early possession and went ahead after fifteen minutes when Johnny Holland converted a penalty from in front of the posts.

College were level inside two minutes when a drive by Brian Vaughan resulted in a penalty which Sean Og Murphy converted.

Con hit the front again on the stroke of half time a drive by Chris Quinn was halted illegally on the students 22 which resulted in a yellow card for Dave O’Connell and Johnny Holland converted.

Despite being down to fourteen the students were level on forty seven minutes when Sean Og Murphy kicked a penalty after he was stopped on the Con’ line.

Con’ then changed their side moving Darragh Lyons to scrum and bringing Johnny Holland to fly-half.

Two tries in a five minute spell towards the end of the third quarter decided this contest.
Con won a line out on the College 22 and mauled the ball towards the try line, when the ball was passed out to Holland he found a gap to score under the posts and he added the extras for a 13-6 lead.
Five minutes later another maul from a line out saw Gavin Duffy being credited with the touchdown.

College responded with the try of the match from the restart. A break up the line by winger Conor Barry saw him link up with Seamus Glynn and Barry was on hand to receive the return pass to score in the corner.

College did press for an equalising score in the closing minutes but with the last kick of the game Johnny Holland kicked his third penalty to send Con’ through to yet another final.
