Weekend Round-Up As Training Resumes Tomorrow

The Munster players return to training tomorrow after a well-earned break with new signing Gerhard van den Heever set to meet up with the squad for the first time.

The South African winger touched down at Cork airport last Tuesday but has yet to train with his new club due to the international break.

Three of his new team-mates were in action for Ireland on Saturday as Ireland thrashed Samoa 40-9 at the Aviva Stadium.

Peter O’Mahony scored Ireland’s first try with Conor Murray starting at scrum-half and new Irish captain Paul O’Connell coming on as a replacement.

Along with the international players, there were also plenty of academy and development players involved in club rugby over the weekend.

In Division 1A of the All Ireland League, seven academy and two development players featured as Dolphin beat Cork Con 14-9 in the Cork derby at Musgrave Park on Friday night.

Munster players dominated the scoresheet as Johnny Holland kicked all nine of Cork Con’s points with Dolphin’s points coming from the boot of Rory Scannell and a Darren Sweetnam try.

Cian Bohane, Niall Scannell, Darren O’Shea and Ryan Murphy also played for Dolphin with Niall Kenneally in the Cork Con side.

Elsewhere in Division 1A, academy prospect Brian Haugh kicked three penalties for Young Munster as they condemned Garryowen to their fifth defeat of the season at Dooradoyle.

Prop Alan Cotter was also involved for Young Munster with Harry McNulty, Shane Buckley and Alex Wootton representing Garryowen.

In Division 1B, development hooker Duncan Casey and Greg O’Shea of the academy played as Shannon clung on for a 13-9 win over UL Bohemians at Coonagh.
