Alan Kinglsey Kicks UWA To Victory

Alan Kinglsey, who played at half back for Young Munster last season, has lead his Perth side, University of Western Australia, to a roaring victory in a man of the match performance at the weekend

UWA won their first KWIK Premier Grade Grand Final in 39 years by stunning red hot premiership favourites Nedlands 15-13. Nedlands won the 2010 Grand Final and has made regular appearances in the final throughout the years, whereas Sunday marked the first time UWA – who finished eighth last year – has contested the flag since 1977 with the club's last premiership coming 39 years ago in 1972.

University flyhalf Alan Kingsley was named man of the match as he guided his side brilliantly around the field and kicked all of his side’s points.

“I'm delighted,” said Uni Coach Steve McFarland, “the last time the club won was 1972 so it's been a long time between drinks and we're all absolutely delighted with this result.

“There were great performances across the park.

“We were very strong on defence and we were far better at the breakdown than we were against Nedlands a couple of weeks ago.

“Alan (Kingsley) in particular was outstanding for us today.

“He was cool, calm and kicked confidently under great pressure.

“In a grand final things are always different but he just looked right at home out there.”

It was Kingsley's boot that saw his side through to the Premier Grade Grand Final with a 79th minute penalty that gave his side a 19–18 win over Cottesloe the previous week.

Kings' inspirational kicking has made him the club's highest points scorer with a tally of 163 this season.

Alan Kingsley was not the only Munster representation on the UWA team that won the KWIK Premier Grade Grand Final, four former Shannon players Andrew Finn, Fionn McLoughlin, Trevor Downes and Cian O'Connor also play with the side. No doubt the boys will still be celebrating what is an historic win for the University side.
