Cork Gears Up to Welcome Heroes

After thousands of Munster fans thronged the streets of Limerick on Sunday to welcome home the victorious Munster team, Cork gears up to welcome their heroes to the city on Tuesday night.

Festivities will kick off at 7pm with entertainment from “The Laughing Shamrocks” on the stage at Parnell Place.  There will also be a big screen located on the South Mall showing the events.  At the same time, the Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Donal Counihan and Cork City Council will host a Civic Reception in City Hall for the team.

Following the reception, the team will walk across to Parnell Place to the stage where they will address the supporters and display the magnificent Heineken Cup.
Cork City Council wishes to advise the public of the following arrangements which will be in place.

Major Diversions will be in place Tuesday from 2.30pm to 10pm to facilitate the Cork Homecoming of the Munster Rugby Team.

All city centre routes will be affected by road closures. Diversions will be in place on all city centre roads from 7.00pm on Tuesday.  No entry signs will be in place from 7pm.

NOTE: Parnell Bridge (Northbound) will be closed from 2.30pm.

Black Ash Park and Ride will operate until 9.30pm. City Terminus will be at Eglinton Street instead of Lapp’s Quay from 2.30 pm. Patrons are encouraged to use this facility.

There will be No Parking permitted on Tuesday the 23rd May on South Mall from Morrison Street to Parnell Place both sides, and on Parnell Place from South Mall to Oliver Plunkett Street both sides from 1pm. Clamping and Tow Away will be enforced rigorously in the event of parking violations.

We would ask that all persons attending the homecoming would comply with requests and directions from stewards and members of An Garda Síochána. Parents and Guardians intending to bring children to the event should be aware that considerable numbers may attend.
