Munster Red Day Raises Funds

Students at North Presentations Secondary School in Farranree in Cork took Munster Red Day a step further by raising funds for the Irish Heart Foundation.

The Students of North Presentation Secondary School, Farranree chose to take Munster Red Day a step further and raise money for a cause close to their hearts. The students council charged their fellow students a stipend to wear red on Friday 19th May and it resulted in them raising nearly 400.

They decided to donate the money to the Irish Heart Foundation after careful consideration. When they surveyed their fellow students they realised that almost 90% of them had some family member who was affected by a heart related illness.

On accepting the cheque Anne Riordan, Regional Manager for the Irish Heart Foundation reminded student on ways to prevent and protect them from having heart problems. To maintain a Healthy heart she explained the golden rules, eat sensibly (at least five portions of fruit and vegetables daily), drink plenty of water, don t drink in excess, take regular exercise and don t smoke!

The Heart Foundation is most grateful for this donation and the money will be used to fund their many education and research programmes. In particular the money will help fund the new helpline, which is manned by medical people and gives Hearth Health Information for the price of a local call – that number is 1890 432 787
