Dolphin Pay Tribute to Mick O’ Riordan

Dolphin RFC recently paid tribute to Michael O’ Riordan in recognitiion of his 30 years as Club Hon. Secretary

Last Friday night, Dolphin members paid tribute to Michael O Riordan in recognition of his 30 years as Club Hon Secretary.

He joined the club in 1974 after leaving UCC and in only his second year with the club, the Club President, the late Aidan McSweeney approached him to ask if he would take on the Hon Secretary s job and he had no hesitation in accepting it.

Amongst the large number of people who attended the function were 17 former Club Presidents, and many ex senior captains.

In his speech Olann Kelleher the 2005/06 President spoke about Mick s dedication to his role and the Club and the large attendance was testament to his popularity. He welcomed in particular Mrs Maureen Mahony wife of the late Nacie, former President of Dolphin & the IRFU, and also Anne Giltinan wife of the late Vince Giltinan and Renee Murphy, wife of the late Val Murphy who were also past Presidents.

Mick failed to give the number of meetings he would have attended over 30 years, but reminded people that he has not given up the role yet. He thanked everyone he had dealt with, all the friends he had made in Dolphin and up and down the country and of course his wife Marie and their family for their understanding over the years.
