Six Try Victory For Munster

Munster scored a six try 36-19 win over Scottish Borders in front of a sizeable crowd in Thomond Park yesterday evening, a victory that saw Anthony Horgan score two tries, one in each half, as did leading try-scorer, Mossie Lawlor.

The game itself didn’t kick off until an hour after the scheduled (7.30 pm) time because the visiting side were delayed arriving in the country.

Played in ideal conditions, it had it’s opening score in the 20th minute whenHorgan blasted over from 30 metres. Eddie Halvey scored a second, seven minutes later, which Jason Holland converted before Semi Sititi opened the Scottish account with a try just before half time.

Horgan went in for his second try shortly after the re-start and Lawlor ended a good move up the left touchline to stretch the lead to 22-5.

Borders out-half, Tanner Vili danced through some would-be tacklers to set up a try for Craig Moir but Simon Kerr capped a good personal performance with try number five for Munster which Killian Keane converted for a 29-12 lead.

Vili was once the architect of the Borders’ third try which was again scored by Moir but Munster finished in style with their sixth and Lawlor’s second try of the evening.

Afterwards, coach Alan Gaffney expressed his satisfaction with the fixture. “It was a very useful outing from our point of view. It allowed us give game-time to players who badly needed it. There was a bit of ring-rustiness, which is understandable given that we haven’t played a game in over six weeks. But it was good to have our injured players back and this is a game that will certainly benefit everyone.”
