Munster Youths played a disappointing game Saturday last when they travelled to the famous Ravenhill grounds for their Interprovincial Championship opener.

Ulster, last seasons Interpro champions started the game with a burst of enthusiasm and stunned the Munster under 18s when their winger James Kirkpatrick scored the first try within two minutes of the starting whistle. While the Youths never settled in the first half Ulster grew in confidence kicking a penalty in the 12th minute and another converted try from Stephen Ferris on the 30th minute to give them a comfortable lead on the half time break.

Munster had a much improved performance in the second period camping inside the Ulster twenty two but splendid defence by Ulster prevented Munster winger Ian Hanley from scoring on four occasions. Munster did however snatch a last minute try from reserve scrum half Aidan Floyd which Hanley converted.

Final score Ulster Youth 17 Munster Youths 7.
