Wins For Garryowen and Muskerry

Both Garryowen and Muskerry advanced to the next round of the Munster Junior Cup.

Garryowen defeated Shannon 27-6 at Dooradoyle to book a home tie with Young Munster in the fifth round of the Munster Junior Cup. Paul Clancy put Shannon ahead with a penalty after ten minutes but a try by David Rowley on twenty five minutes converted by Jeffrey Ryan gave Garryowen the lead. Clancy kicked a second penalty to leave it 7-6 at half time.

Eamon Connolly extended the home side’s lead with a second try midway through the second half and in the final ten minutes Cian Leahy, Sean Hogan and Alex Griffin each crossed for tries.

Muskerry also booked their place in the fifth round with a 20-0 win over Ballincollig at Tanner Park. All the damage was done in final five minutes of the opening half when a try by John Herlihy and a conversion and two penalties by Jonathan Buckley gave the visitors a 13-0 half time lead. Tyrone O’Regan scored a second try and Buckley converted. Muskerry will be away to the winners of the Cobh Pirates Skibbereen tie in the next round.

In the Women’s Munster Cup Highfield are through to the final and are almost certain to face U.L. Bohemian. The Limerick side must complete their program next week.
