Weekend Preview

Plenty of action across all grades this weekend with a full program of games in Divisions 1A and 1B of the Ulster Bank League and eleven ties in the Munster Junior Cup to be decided.

Division 1A leaders Young Munster continue their quest for the title at home to third place St. Mary’s College at Clifford Park on Saturday. Munster’s will hope to continue their recent good run with another victory against a Dublin side who have been putting together a series of wins in their last few games.

Cork Constitution travel to Old Belvedere in a repeat of last season’s final which the Dublin side won. Con’ are seven points off the pace and know they cannot afford any more slip ups and will be confident of taking the spoils against a Belvo’ side that have struggled this season.

Garryowen who have shot up the table with some impressive victories face a difficult test away to Lansdowne at the Aviva Stadium.

Shannon are away to bottom side Blackrock College and must get back to winning ways after a few poor showings in recent weeks if they are to avoid a relegation battle over the closing weeks of the campaign.

Dolphin just above the danger zone, entertain Clontarf at Musgrave Park and will have their work cut out to get a victory.

In Division 1B the three Munster clubs are in the bottom half of the table. U.L. Bohemian can move into the top half with an away win over Galwegians.

Bruff seven points ahead of bottom side U.C.C. make the long journey to Dungannon and will have it all to do to get a victory.

Bottom side UCC still seeking their first victory are at home to promotion chasing Buccaneers and it is difficult to see the students getting their first win of the campaign.

In the Munster Junior Cup Highfield after impressive victories over Bantry Bay and Nenagh Ormond face an inform Kinsale side at Woodleigh Park. The Kinsale side have put together a few decent results in recent weeks and will again be looking towards Renaud Sergere and Paul Perez to cause another upset.

Garryowen host Bandon and the odds must be on the Dooradoyle side of taking their place in the next round.

Defending champions Cashel are away to Abbeyfeale but it is the Tipperary’s side second string that will be defending the title and they will have it all to do to advance to the next round.

Old Crescent after their big win over Fermoy host Second Division leaders Mallow. The North Cork side may rest some of their players as they concentrate on promotion.

Ennis should see off third Division side Charleville, while Midleton will fancy their chances at home to Ballincollig.

Presentation after their victory over Newport will face a bigger test at home to Bruff.

Third Division leaders Dungarvan will have their work cut out when they travel to Limerick to face St. Mary’s.

In the other ties Newcastle West should get the better of Youghal and home advantage could see Carrick-on-Suir causing an upset at home to Castleisland, while Muskerry will be anxious to get back to winning ways with a home win over Scariff.

There are three games in Division One of the Munster Junior League with three of the sides chasing leaders Richmond in action. As a result of the Junior League Committee to award Richmond the points from their game with Clonmel, the Limerick side have a seven point lead over second placed Kanturk.

Kanturk are away to Crosshaven and will want to bounce back to winning ways after last week’s surprise defeat by Kinsale in the County Cup.

Galbally ten points behind the leaders are at home to third place Skibbereen the side just above them in the table and neither side cannot afford to drop any more points.

Clonmel who have slipped down the table in recent weeks are at home to Old Christians in what is a must win game for both sides.
