Weekend Preview And Fixtures

11th March 2014 By Munster Rugby

There is a full series of games in the Ulster Bank League this weekend as several outstanding Junior games are also down for decision.

The pick of the weekend’s program in Division 1A is at Dooradoyle where bottom side Garryowen entertain Cork Constitution. The Sky Blues will be looking to make it third time lucky as they were defeated 18-15 by the Lilywhites at Temple Hill in the League in November. Garryowen were also defeated 9-6 by the same opposition in the ODM Munster Senior Cup final before Christmas when the Lilywhites were awarded a disputed late penalty. This is a game Garryowen must win to have any chance of avoiding relegation.

Young Munster travel to the Capital to take on leaders Old Belvedere and the Limerick side will have their work cut out as they aim to avenge last November’s narrow 13-10 defeat by the Dublin side at Tom Clifford Park.

Dolphin and UCD go head to head in a mid-table clash at Musgrave Park on Sunday and the Dublin Students won the corresponding game 22-7 at Belfield in November. Dolphin will be anxious to atone for their poor showing last day out against Clontarf.

There will be nothing more than local pride at stake as UL Bohemian take on Shannon in a Limerick derby at Annacotty with both sides in mid-table in Division 1B. Shannon ran out 13-9 winners when these sides met at Coonagh in November.

In Division 2A bottom side Bruff face a tricky task as they take on Queen’s University at Kilballyowen Park and fellow strugglers Old Crescent welcome third-placed Ballymena to Rosbrien.

UCC will be looking to keep their outside chances of promotion on track as they travel to Killiney to take on struggling Seapoint and Leeside neighbours Highfield make the long trip to Magherafelt to take on Rainey Old Boys.

Cashel lock horns with City of Derry in a mid-table clash at Judge’s Road.

The game of the day in Division 2B sees leaders Nenagh Ormond putting their unbeaten record on the line as they entertain second-placed Greystones at New Ormond Park.

Third-placed Thomond face a tricky task in a bid to keep their outside promotion hopes alive as they travel to the Palace Grounds to take on fifth-placed City of Armagh.

Sunday’s Well will be looking to maintain their recent good run as they take on struggling Instonians at Musgrave Park and Richmond travel to North Dublin to take on bottom side Suttonians.

Midleton lock horns with Navan in a mid-table encounter at Towns Park.
There are a handful of games across all three divisions of the Munster Junior League over the course of St Patrick’s’ weekend, together with the first semi final of the Munster Junior Clubs’ Challenge Shield.

Muskerry host Bandon in their opening round game of the Munster Junior Cup and having retained their First Division status will fancy their chances of advancing to an away game against Kinsale.

Newly-crowned Munster Junior League champions Kanturk travel to County Limerick to take on Galbally under lights on Friday evening and the home side could inflict a defeat on the champions who are likely to rest several of their players ahead of the opening round of the Round Robin series the week after.

On Sunday Mallow who are already relegated entertain St Mary’s at St Joseph’s Road, with the Limerick side looking for a win to finish as runners up.

Skibbereen take on Clonmel at the Carbery Showgrounds and the visitors assured of a top four finish would finish higher with a victory.

There is an all Cork clash at The Vale as Clonakilty host Old Christians in a mid table clash.

Waterpark make the long trip to the Kingdom to take on Tralee in their quest to avoid the drop. A win for the Waterford side will guarantee top flight rugby if Kanturk qualify for next season’s AIL, but a win for the Kerry side would see them contest the All Ireland Junior Cup if Kanturk were to move up to Senior ranks.

The only game in Division 2 sees Clanwilliam take on Premier County neighbours Newport in Tipperary Town. Newport are still seeking their first win and they will have their work cut out as they have a few games in hand in their bid to avoid joining Killorglin in Division 3 next season.

Charleville and Carrigaline go head to head in a mid-table Cork derby at Smith’s Road in Division 3 on Saturday and South Cork neighbours Douglas travel to West Cork on Sunday to play Dunmanway-Bantry Bay.

Ballincollig and Abbeyfeale, who have both secured promotion form Division 3 are on the road as ‘Collig travel to South Tipperary to take on Carrick-on-Suir and Abbey’ are away to Fermoy to determine which of these two will finish top of the table.

Scariff make the long trip to West Waterford to play Dungarvan.

Ennis are at home to Clare neighbours St Senan’s in the first semi final of the Munster Junior Clubs’ Challenge Shield. Both sides had contrasting fortunes in Division 2 of the Junior League with ‘Senan’s crowned champions, while Ennis are hovering above the drop zone. St Senan’s ran out 15-7 winners when these sides met at Jimmy Slattery Park in the League in November and Ennis will be looking to make the most of home advantage count in their bid to claim silverware from a disappointing season.
