Weekend Junior Rugby Round-Up

Dungarvan are crowned Munster Junior League Division Three champions and Clonmel go back on top of Division 1 after leaders Newcastle West are demolished by Kilfeacle

Division 1 leaders Newcastle West lost their place at the top of the table following their 35-15 away defeat by Kilfeacle. The winners scored seven tries in their rout of the leaders.

James Kelly had the visitors ahead with a try after three minutes but Danny Lamb had Kilfeacle level minutes later. Pat Ryan put the home side ahead with a second try, but Alan Roche kicked a penalty just before half time to leave the score 10-8 at the interval.

Tries from Danny Lowry, Keith Bourke, Dermot Carr and JJ Cooney saw the Tipperary side take the spoils. Tommy Kelleher scored a consolation try for the visitors and Roche converted.

Clonmel bounced back after last week’s defeat by St. Senan’s to go back on top following their 46-0 home win over St. Mary’s. Morgan Lyons, Mark Corby, Luke Hogan, Ronan Cross, Darren Cass and Greg Carroll all scored tries for Clonmel who were also awarded a penalty try. Conor Cooney kicked four conversions and a penalty.

Two tries from Sean Kingston and one by Dan O’Brien plus a Kingston conversion saw bottom side Kinsale lead St. Senan’s 17-5 after thirty minutes, but the Clare side hit back to run out 31-17 winners. Warren Kelly scored two tries for Senan’s and Jake Egan, Tom Cronin and James Keogh got one each. Declan Rowe kicked three conversions.

Muskerry kept their challenge alive of a top four finish with a 15-8 home win over Skibbereen. Joe Tracey scored a try in each half and Jonathan Buckley kicked a conversion and a penalty. Rory Hoen replied with a try for Skibbereen and Ger Hurley kicked a penalty.

Tralee still remain in serious trouble of being relegated after they left a 17-3 lead slip at Cobh to lose 29-17. Eoin Geary scored two tries for the Pirates and Tom Kevany and Dave Lamb also touched down. Greg Higgins kicked three conversions and a penalty. Gavin Peevers and Dan O’Connor replied with tries for Tralee and both were converted by Mike Mullaly, who also added a penalty.

Galbally defeated Old Christians 27-11 to ease their relegation worries. Kevin O’Donoghue, Brendan Childs, Michael Donovan, Jack Donovan and Podge Halloran scored tries for the winners and Sean Bourke kicked one conversion. Sam O’Connell replied with a try for Old Christians and Sean Meaney kicked two penalties.

The Clonakilty v Waterpark game was postponed as was the Second Division game involving Mallow and Waterford City.

In Division 2, Bandon won their top of the table clash at home to Thurles 33-0. Conor Pullan, Colin Jackson, Jack Murphy and Enda Phelan were Bandon’s try scorers and Richard Walsh kicked three penalties and two conversions.

A penalty from Richard Dineen gave Ballincollig an early lead but second placed Clanwilliam hit back with tries from Ian O’Rahelly, Niall Leahy, Andrew Bennie and Bryan O’Rahelly. Leahy also added a conversion in the 22-3 win as Clanwilliam remain in second place.

Castleisland were held to a 20-20 draw away to Presentation. Willie Casey scored two tries for the Kerry side and Shane O’Connell got one. Danny O’Shea kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Newport defeated Killarney 15-8 with tries from Ray Ryan and Martin Wynne and Philip O’Brien kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Tries from Dan Murphy and Daniel Ward helped Abbeyfeale to a 13-11 victory away to Youghal. Tomas Hassett added a penalty for the visitors. Youghal replied with a try from Killian Daly and Keith McCarthy and Aaron Daly each kicked a penalty.

Ennis defeated bottom side Crosshaven 29-13. Noel Downs, Jason Considine, Alan Brandon, Paul Finucane and Brian Dolan scored tries for Ennis and Conor Dolan added two conversions. Dan Donoghue and Tomas O’Donoghue replied with tries for Crosshaven and Ian Good kicked a penalty.

Four first half penalties by Seamus Keating earned Dungarvan a 12-7 away win over Charleville and also meant that they will finish top of the Third Division. Mattie O’Neill replied with a try for Charleville which Peadar Cronin converted.

Douglas completed their campaign with a 30-0 home win over Bantry Bay to move into second spot, but if Charleville win their last remaining game away to Bantry Bay, they would finish as runners up and get promotion. Dan Cafferkey, Liam Hynes, Eoin Philpott and Alan Walsh scored tries for Douglas and Philpott added two penalties and two conversions.

Fethard had a 24-3 bonus point win over Scariff. Shane Kavanagh scored two tries for the Tipperary side and Chris McGrath and Richard Carroll got one each with Carroll converting two of the tries.

A try from Brian Hayes converted by Seamus Doyle earned Killorglin a 7-0 home win over Fermoy.

Cobh Pirates defeated Corca Dhuibhne 18-12 in the Junior 2 South League Phase 2. Andy Rowe and Shane Cullimore scored tries for Cobh and Ian Jones added two penalties and a conversion. Mikey Fleming and Ciaran Collins replied with tries for the Kerry side and Shane Griffin kicked a conversion.
