Weekend Club Preview

In a relatively quiet weekend there are a handful of games across a variety of competitions down for decision.

On Saturday in the last remaining quarter final of the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup, UCC, who last won the trophy in 1981, lock horns with 2009 finalists Old Crescent at the Mardyke. The winners will be rewarded with a homed semi-final tie against Young Munster.

A new name will be inscribed on the Cyril Fitzgerald Munster Senior Plate as Highfield and Cashel contest the decider at Irish Independent Park, with the Tipperary side seeking their first Munster Senior title.

Clonmel make the long trip to County Mayo to open their Ulster Bank All Ireland Provincial League qualifying campaign against Connacht champions Westport, who were defeated 24-7 by Bangor in their opener at Upritchard Park.

Division 1 of the Munster Junior League concludes on Sunday with two games involving the three bottom sides.
Relegation threatened Old Christians, who are second from bottom on 18 points; face a tricky task as they travel to Limerick to take on fourth-placed Richmond.

Waterpark, who are hovering above the drop zone on 19 points host bottom side St Mary’s with the home side looking to make the most of home advantage count in a bid to preserve their top flight status.

Bruff and Presentation go head to head in the second semi-final of the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Bowl, with the winners meeting Fermoy in the decider. The Rathuard side won the trophy as part of a Treble in 2011, together with the Martin O’Sullivan Cup and the Munster Junior League Division 3 title.

Mallow entertain Abbeyfeale in the second semi-final of the Munster Junior Clubs’ Challenge Shield, with Thurles awaiting the winners in the decider.

Muskerry take on Skibbereen in the first semi-final of the Cork County Cup at Ellis Park, with the winners facing Old Christians or Cobh Pirates in the final.

It will be a Cork v Dublin Frazer McMullen All Ireland Under 20 Cup Final this season.
Cork Constitution who are unbeaten this season entertain UCC at Temple Hill. College caused a big surprise with that 21-10 away win over Lansdowne, having been 10-0 down at half time.
