Ulster Bank League Roundup:

Garryowen’s battle for survival in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League received a big boost at Dooradoyle with victory over Cork Constitution.

Garryowen are now level on points with Ballynahinch at the foot of Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League table following their 12-8 home win over Cork Constitution. Garryowen led 6-3 at half time with two penalties from Andrew O’Byrne to one by Chris Quinn. O’Byrne added two further penalties in the second half and Con’s only reply was a try by Ryan Foley.

Old Belvedere remain top of the table after their 34-12 home win over Young Munster at Anglesea Road. The visitors who trailed 13-7 at half time had tries from Sean Rennison and Alan Cotter with Brian Haugh kicking a conversion.

U.L. Bohemian won their derby game at Annacotty with a 16-15 victory over Shannon in Division 1B. Eoin McSweeney scored a try for Bohes and Robbie Bourke kicked the conversion and added three penalties. Shannon replied with tries from Tadhg Leader and Richie Mullane with Tadhg Bennett kicking a conversion and a penalty.

It was not a good day for Munster clubs in Division 2A with U.C.C. the only side to win. The students defeated Seapoint 9-7 to keep their slim hopes of promotion alive.

Bruff have been relegated following their 27-20 home defeat by Queens University.

Old Crescent‘s hopes also took a dive as they lost at home to Ballymena 19-17.

Both Cashel and Highfield travelled North and both suffered heavy defeats. City of Derry beat Cashel 32-10 and Highfield lost to Rainey Old Boys31-12.

In Division 2B Nenagh Ormond took a big step towards promotion with a 19-17 home win over second placed Greystones.

Thomond remain in third place following their 17-10 away win over City of Armagh.

Richmond also recorded an away win defeating bottom side Suttonians 15-10.

Sunday’s Well moved up to seventh place after their 39-3 home win over Instonians and guaranteed their safety from relegation. Neville O’Donoghue, Michael Moynihan, Lar Coughlan, Ross O’Mahony and Shane Desmond scored tries for the ‘Well and Shane O’Riordan kicked two penalties and four conversions.

Midleton had their first bonus point victory of the season defeating Navan 31-3. Chris Walker contributed two tries and three conversions to his side’s tally and Dave Smyth, Kieran Burns and Diarmuid O’Sullivan were their other try scorers.
