Ulster Bank League Roundup

Garryowen’s recent good run in Division1A of the Ulster Bank League came to an end at Belfield as they went down to UCD. Young Munster defeated Lansdowne as both Cork sides Cork Constitution and Dolphin lost to Dublin opposition.

A second half revival by Garryowen was not enough to save the Limerick side from defeat at Belfield as they went down 26-20 to UCD in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League..
Garryowen trailed 26-0 at half time but rallied with tries from Rory Brosnan and James McInerney. Jamie Gavin converted both and also added two penalties.

Young Munster had a dramatic 24-21win over Lansdowne at Tom Clifford Park when Derry O'Connor had a last minute try which Brian Haugh converted from the touchline.
Young Munster made the perfect start with a Haugh penalty after only three minutes.
Matt Healy had Lansdowne's first try after 15 minutes, converted by Scott Deasy who also added the points to a try by flanker Clive Ross.
Prop Adam Boland had the third try after 28 minutes, again converted by Deasy, and it was 21-3 at the interval.
Two tries from close-in mauls, the first by Tom Goggin and then a penalty try, which were converted by Haugh, left only four between them in an exciting finish with O'Connor snatching it for the home side at the death.

A late comeback by Cork Constitution nearly came close to putting a big dent in Old Belvedere’s tile prospects but the Dublin side held out for a 26-24 victory.
Belvo’ led 26-10 as the game entered the final quarter but tries in the last five minutes from Luke Cahill and James Ryan and a Darragh Lyons conversion saw the home side pick up two bonus points.
Willie Ryan gave the Con’ an early lead with a try but Belvo’ hit back with a try from Sean Byrne and a conversion and two penalties by Steve Crosbie to lead 13-5 at half time.
Gavin Duffy scored a try for Con’ shortly after the restart and Johnny Holland converted, but two penalties and a conversion by Crosbie of a Philip Dwyer try looked like the game was beyond the Temple Hill side until their late scoring spree.

Leaders Clontarf easily brushed aside the challenge of Dolphin at Castle Avenue winning 59-7. The winners led 26-0 at half time and scored seven tries. Cian Bohane was Dolphin’s try scorer and Barry Keeshan converted.

In Division 1B UL Bohemian kept their faint hopes of promotion alive with a 19-12 away win over Trinity at Sydney Parade. The visitors led 13-6 at the interval with a penalty try and a conversion and two penalties by Robbie Bourke. Two further penalties by Bourke saw UL pick up the spoils.

Buccaneers proved too strong for Shannon at Coonagh running out 29-10 winners
A second minute touch down by Steve McCauley had the visitors on their way and Jack Carey added a penalty after twelve minutes.
A try by Mata Fifita which was converted by Carey made it 15-0 for the visitors.
Rob Guerin landed a Shannon penalty eight minutes before the break to give his side some hope for the second half.
When former Munster player Paddy Butler had a Shannon try which Guerin converted it left only five points between them with ten minutes remaining.
But Buccaneers finished in style and tries by Luke Satchwell and Shane Leydon gave them their deserved with Carey converting both.

UCC are still in with a chance of promotion from Division 2A after their 12-0 away win over Queens University in Belfast.

Cashel were surprisingly beaten 11-6 at home to Old Wesley.

Highfield moved further away from relegation after a dramatic 17-16 home win over bottom side Bruff. Tries by Dave Kelly and Wayne Falvey and a conversion by Ian O’Donoghue gave Highfield a 12-6 half time lead. Ritchie McAuliffe replied with two penalties for Bruff. A try by Stephen Keogh and a conversion and a penalty by McAuliffe gave the visitors a 16-12 lead but with the last play of the game Mike Flynn nipped in for a try for Highfield.

Old Crescent still occupy the other relegation spot after their 26-15 away defeat by Banbridge.

Nenagh Ormond preserved their unbeaten record in Division 2B with a 20-18 home win over City of Armagh.

Greystones remain in second place after their narrow 13-11 away win over Midleton. Ryan Lehane scored a try for Midleton and Christian walker kicked a penalty and a drop goal for the East Cork side.

Thomond remain in third place following their 26-5 away win over Ards.

Sunday’s Well eased their relegation worries with a 15-6 home win over Navan. Eamon Murphy and Matt Quinlivan scored tries for the ‘Well and Shane O’Riordan added a conversion and a penalty.
