Tipperary Schools Win Meteor Schools Blitz

Rockwell College won the inaugural U17 10 aside Schools Blitz, sponsored by Meteor, in their home grounds yesterday afternoon.

Nenagh CBS won Section 2 which made it a successful day for the two of the four competing Tipperary Schools.

On a sun drenched day, 21 teams took part in this schools event. The facilities and venue were excellently presented by Rockwell College which was the basis of a very enjoyable day.

The teams were split into two sections and played over 5 pitches, with Ard Scoil Ris, Bandon Grammar, CBC (x2 teams), PBC (x2 teams), Castletroy, Crescent Comprehensive, St Munchins and Rockwell taking part in Section 1.

CBC (1) and Rockwell contested a very competitive final in section 1 with the home side coming out on top. This was a repeat of this year’s Bowen Shield final and topped off a very successful year for Rockwell College adding to their Senior Cup and Bowen Shield trophies.

In section 2, De La Salle College, St. Clements, Nenagh CBS and Cashel College contested the semi finals with St Clements and Nenagh going through to the final. In an exciting finish both teams were level at full time and again after extra time. It was decided to have a ‘drop goal’ shoot out where the Nenagh School were victorious after it went to ‘Golden’ drop Goal!

Munster Rugby would like to sincerely thank Meteor for their sponsorship of the event providing the prizes of Munster and Meteor Branded jackets and t-shirts to winners.

We would also like to thank Munster player Doug Howlett for presenting the prizes, the MAR referees for their excellent management of the games, the Red Cross in Tipperary and to Rockwell College for their help and co-ordination throughout.

Munster Rugby look forward to running similar events within the province.
