Talent Camp Kicks Off For 2014

The annual Munster Rugby Talent Camp kicked off today at Rockwell College beginning with an induction for Munster Representative players and their parents ahead of the five week programme.

Munster Elite Player Development Manager Peter Malone and Munster Rugby Development Manager Ultan O'Callaghan addressed the IRFU Long Term Player Development pathway from age grade to senior level and spoke of the high level of commitment the players must give in order to progress.

Tom Barry, Academy Chairman, also welcomed the players and their parents and gave a brief overview of the Talent Camp programme.

Players have been selected from Under 20, Under 19 and Under 18 (clubs and schools) over the past few months as part of the Munster player identification process and will reside in Rockwell College from Tuesday to Thursday until the beginning of August, where they will take part in extensive training and educational modules.

Programmes will include on-pitch activities, strength and conditioning and player welfare tutorials focusing on diet and nutritional needs.

The Munster Rugby Talent Camp will incorporate preparations for the upcoming interprovincial campaigns commencing this September while giving players, coaches and management a unique opportunity to familiarise themselves with all squads.

Throughout this five week period it is envisaged players will be identified for the Academy and Development Squads as part of Munster Rugby's overall objective in building for the future.
