Saturday Senior Rugby Roundup

It was a mixed day for the two Munster clubs involved in the Ulster Bank All Ireland League this weekend.

Young Munster moved to third place thanks to their bonus try win in the mud at Clifford Park for a 29-13 win over Galwegians in this Division 1A tie of the Ulster Bank League.

Sean Duggan, Diarmuid Dee and Jack Harrington all handled to send Gearoid Lyons in for the try after five minutes.

It was all square after fifteen minutes thanks to Sean O'Brien's try for 'Wegians who then had a spell of dominance but failed to produce a score.

Against the run of play the home side got back in front. This time Alan Kennedy got the score but straight from the kick-off Galwegians outhalf Aidan Moynihan landed a penalty in the dreadful rain to leave it 12-8 at the interval.

Five minutes into the second half Lyons kicked a penalty and he then converted superbly from the touchline after David O'Mahoney touched down following good work by Ger Slattery.

A few minutes from the end of the mud bath Young Munster drove over with the try being credited to Ben Kilkenny which Lyons again converted.

In stoppage time Api Phewhairagi had a consolation try for 'Wegians.

Sunday’s Well hopes of an eleventh successive win ended in a cruel fashion in Dungannon as the home side scored a match winning try in the final minute of the game to emerge 20-17 winners in this Division 2B clash.
Two tries from winger Josh Neilson gave the ‘Well an early 10-0 lead but Dungannon curtsey of a penalty try conversion and penalty were level 10-10 at half time.

Dungannon took the lead with a Stephen Todd try but the Well hit back with a try from Greg Higgins which Shane O’Riordan converted to lead 17-15 until Paul Armstrong struck in the final minute.

Results:
Ulster Bank League Division 1A: Young Munster 29, Galwegians 13;

Division 2B: Dungannon 20, Sunday's Well 10;
